So in sword or shield, if you get the isle of armor pokedex (via trade) before you buy the dlc (or get to the point in the game where you can go there) and then get the dlc, does anything special happen? (P.s. also what happens if you get it normally? I haven't gotten the dlc dex yet.[why,pinsirandclauncher?!]);

What do you mean by, "doesn't anything special happen?" If you're asking about a cutscene or special event, no, nothing happens.

If you have all the Pokemon necessary to complete the Isle of Armor Pokedex before you receive the Isle of Armor Pokedex, than it will just be full when you get it. Nothing special will happen.
Probably nothing happens. Also Fun Fact: I had a Glitch where Water type Dlc Pokemons spawned in my dens.
You should be sure before you answer.
I did it once in Pokemon Sword by tricking a Volcarona at tne beginning of the game without updating the dlc.
 - In the game Volcarona was visually performed as "Pikachu" shape.
 - all of its information : ability, stat , etc was as "???" in display.
- Except for the name "Volcarona" is the only thing that was as expected.
This happens if your playing on version 1.0. Since the DLC came out, any version of the game can use Pokemon from the DLC, but only people who bought the DLC can go to the DLC regions.
