If you have a good competitive moveset for Xatu, post an answer below and upvote the best ones. Movesets for any of its pre-evolutions can also be shared on this thread.

Be sure to include full set details in your post, e.g. items, abilities, natures and EVs. Some detail, including the intended game mode for your set, is also appreciated. Access the full list of guidelines here.

Xatu Pokédex and learnset for reference.

Why was your question voted down? I'll vote it back up for you.
I don't know. Maybe it's because I'm asking these types of questions a lot. The only reason I am doing this is to help people, those who want good movesets for their Pokemon can just go to my questions and find the moveset that works best for them. Either that, or people are voting things down for no reason again.
i would personally go with
psychic
shadow ball
acrobatics
roost
Xatu (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Mirror
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

I would give him this set:

Psychic:good power, STAB, lower SP Def

Shadow ball- better power than ominous wind- (10% to raise stats isn't that dependable

Roost- healing

Refresh-Healing status moves.

if he had magic bounce, you wouldn't even need refresh.
in 2010, Magic Bounce wasn't introduced yet

Xatu

Xatu (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 HP/ 252 Def/ 252 Sp.D
Nature: Calm (+Sp Def, -Atk)

Calm Mind
Confuse Ray
Stored Power/Psychic
Roost

Calm Mind: Calm Mind is very helpful for Xatu, as it's a Special Attacker. This also helps boosts the power of Stored Power. Use it twice after Confuse Ray, and Stored Power's power would be ( 20 × 4 + 20) 100. If you're going with Psychic, then it'll also be useful.

Confuse Ray: This one is simple. Just stall the opponent out and use that opportunity to raise your stats (Calm Mind).

Stored Power/Psychic: I don't think many people have heard of Stored Power move, but it is to be feared. For each stat boost (positive), the move's power'll increase by 20. The maximum power is 860. Use it well and it'll benefit you. However, if you're worried if the opponent has Roar, then go with psychic.

Roost: This is pretty obvious. Use it when your HP is low.

P.S This is my very first post, so correct me if I'm wrong about anything ^-^

Totem (Xatu) @ Colbur Berry / Leftovers

xatu

Role: NU CM Bulky Sweeper

Ability: Magic Bounce

EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 56 Speed

Timid Nature

  • Calm Mind
  • Roost / Giga Drain
  • Psychic / Psyshock
  • Signal Beam / Heat Wave

Explanation

Xatu has access to Calm Mind and is probably one of the better users of it in NU. It also has decent typing and Magic Bounce, which is especially useful for a CM Sweeper. The main downsides to Xatu is its lack of bulk and vulnerability to Knock Off / Pursuit.

The EVs are meant to bolster Xatu's physical Defenses and HP. The EVs in Speed and Timid Nature allows it to outspeed neutral base 70 speed Pokemon, like Ludicolo. You could use either Colbur Berry (which allows it to tank one Dark-type move) or Leftovers, which can be used to boost Xatu's longevity.

Calm Mind is a nice set-up move. Roost is better used when using Colbur Berry, while Giga Drain can be used with Leftovers. Both moves gives nice recovery. Psychic hits hard, while Psyshock hits Specially Defensive walls. Signal Beam deals with Dark-types, while Heat Wave beats Steel-type Walls, such as Ferroseed.

Mine is a good tank, It has magic bounce, and the lax nature (I know, it's not the best). It has leftovers, and is invested in Hp and Def. It knows:

  • Reflect: boosts team defense
  • Calm mind: boost his Sp Atk and Sp Def
  • Air slash: good move, STAB, chance to flinch
  • Roost: heal him up a lot

This set works well because the enemy can't toxic stall you out, and once Xatu is set up, he's a monster

Xatu
Gender Female
Nature bold
255/Spd 255/Def 4/SpA

Attract/Confuse ray

Really Good In Terms of Stalling, Confuse ray if you want to Confuse any Pokemon or Attract to infaltuate male Pokemon.

Toxic

Mega Key for stallers and mediocre defense for Xatu

Roost

INFINITE STALL

Foul Play

Most Pokemon get good if not, mediocre attack so, pretty good.

Name: OOF THE XATU

I have a question. I just looked at this guy's learnset. Why are we not seeing this guy everywhere? He's the perfect support Pokemon. I LOVE double battles, so I love this guy. I did this:

[email protected] orb
ability- Magic bounce
skill swap
me first/ sky attack
Roost
Trick/ Tailwind

you bait people with this guy. they target the other Pokemon with status, you skill swap it over they target themselves. Pair this with my Serene Grace Blissey. Boom, sky attack has super high flinch chance. Blissey will probs be poisoned or burned but not with Magic bounce. And you can always skill swap back. Trick to trade items to a sweeper. Tailwind to support that same sweeper.

Specially Defensive Pivot/Support.

Xatu @ Heavy-Duty Boots (Switch-in)
Ability: Magic Bounce (Redirect Entry Hazards/Status)
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Wish (Recover)
- Future Sight (Force a potential switch-out)
- Defog (Remove Entry Hazards)
- Teleport (Switch-out)

by
This set is completely walled by Dark types. Imagine Xatu is the last Pokémon you have, and you’re up against a Dark type. You are done for.
How and why would I keep Xatu as my last Pokémon? It's a pivot...
...and if your last 'mon is Xatu, you're probably done for, no matter the set.
Anyway, you could replace Defog w/ Dazzling Gleam/Air Slash and Wish w/ Toxic, I guess.
why even have an attacking move? you just yeet taunt back with magic bounce. also, why do you have defog if you have magic bounce?
Future Sight hits 2 turns after use, letting Xatu chain Future Sight into Wish into Switch-out.
Defog removes existing Entry Hazards, duh...
Future Sight is generally too slow and unreliable to use consistently bc it's super easy to just get a Pokémon in by then anyway that can take the attack, or deal significant damage beforehand to whatevers in. Usually better off with an instant attack or just another utility move

Xatu @ Leftovers
Modest
Magic Bounce
252 HP and Spe, 4 SpA
-Simple Beam
-Thunder Wave
-Psychic
-Rain Dance/Giga Drain

So, this thing can learn Simple Beam. This set is meant to be used with a Shell Smash Blastoise in doubles. Xatu must outspeed in order to get off Simple Beam. Rain Dance is for Blastoise, in order to provide healing, but Giga Drain is also an option.

Blastoise @ White Herb
Jolly
Rain Dish/Torrent (Rain Dish if Rain Dance is used.)
252 Attack, 128 Def and 128 SpDef
-Aqua Jet
-Ice Punch
-Earthquake
-Crunch/Outrage

Another option would be to split At and SpA EVs, and use a mixed set, because Blastoise has options like Scald, Ice Beam, Dragon Pulse, and Flash Cannon. Or just use a fully special set and give Xatu Psyshock.

So, here is a little gimmicky Xatu set:
Xatu @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Protect
- U-turn
Explanation: So, you will need to find a good time to use Toxic. Then, you alternate between Substitute and Protect. U-Turn is to get out of bad situations, such as going up against Poison and Steel Types.
