I thought that I should ask this so I know what to do in situations where I'm not sure when to approve or reject a post. Obviously, I know that a post should be rejected if it breaks the rules in some way, but what about things like incorrect answers on questions? Should those be approved?

Best answer

Just how I see it;

Reject if the post

  • Blatantly breaks rules/Is not an answer
Refer to https://pokemondb.net/pokebase/rules obviously. Occasionally you'll get some random spam about candles or some baby product, those are fun :). Sometimes people will also post comments as answers by accident; approve those and convert into a comment.
  • You can't make heads or tails of it grammatically/thematically
Look if you can't understand it, I'm going to go out on a whim and say the rest of us probably won't either
  • Literally just a wrong answer
    Obviously double check this
  • Potato answer
Generally, "Yes" does not qualify as an answer. Explanation is good :)
  • Answering an outdated question
If the question was asked a long time ago, there's no point allowing necroposts or answers through.
Scenario 1: Generally if a question has been BA'd and resolved, I'd reject every submission after it within a day or two, unless they significantly improve on the current BA or disprove it altogether
Scenario 2: Once a question is outdated and resolved, I reject any answers afterwards whether they improve on the answer or not. Generally anything over a year later in my book is outdated. Up to user discretion, common sense is great.
Edited and rearranged for clarity ^
  • Late answer that basically reiterates another answer
If someone posted an answer saying what another answer said, say, 12 hours later, reject it. Do remember however, sometimes you might see answers that were submitted at the same time, but just didn't get approved in time. Even if a question has already been BA'd, approve these ones still.

That's all I can think of rn
Also if you're ever not sure if you should approve/reject a post just leave it. You can message another mod/editor about it (discord), or just wait for someone else to deal with the problem :)
^ Literally me, guilty as charged, thanks fizz <3

Yep, not much else to add. Just keep to the rules and make sure content is of a reasonable quality. Everything should have some explanation, and it should at least introduce some good insight even if it's not completely accurate. Also: if in doubt, I'd say approve it. This lets you see what others think -- you can make a more informed decision then.
Last thing, if you come across a spam account, message me so I can block its IP.
Thanks, both of you!
@Sempi, you used my potato word. How dare you! >:c
