Two ways to fix this issue:

  1. Make it so that no two users can have the same username.

  2. Make it so that no one is allowed to impersonate mods.

I got the idea because three different users, (Cranpper, Jimmy, and the real HT) were all called Hellfire Taco. It got confusing really fast.

The "no two users can have the same username" is already implemented; anytime you try to change your name to that of another users, it will fail with the message "this username is already taken". Me and cranpper were using a special character that is effectively a blank Braille pattern to get around that and name ourselves Hellfire Taco, but it was purely for kicks and giggles, and only lasted like 10 minutes; obviously, if someone tried to actually go around impersonating a mod seriously, it wouldnt fly

If someone was actually trying to troll by changing their username, then we would ban them. That would apply no matter who they were impersonating, be they a mod or not. Perhaps that deserves a mention in the rules list, but I'm more than happy to enforce it either way, because it's common sense not to troll people if you don't want a ban. In this case, though, I don't think anybody was trying to mislead you.

As others mentioned before me, it's already impossible to have exactly the same username as somebody else, so you can tell the names apart if you're looking closely. Pokemaster has already banned some of the common impersonation tactics (like using blank characters) in the username change threads. Hopefully, in the future we can have a better name change system that staff have more control over.

For clarity, though: if it's going to get people writing meta threads about how they're being confused, I'd rather you guys didn't do this sort of thing, even if you're not serious about it.

If Hellfire knew that I was actually trying to disrupt the community by pretending to be someone with authority, he’d probably have banned me by now. I was not trying to fool anyone. My wall posts are all still there, my picture is the same, you can still see that I’m an expert, my points are still the same, and all the text on my profile is the same.

I don’t disagree with you, though, name change periods are slightly confusing, even when nobody is messing around. It helps to look at the stuff I listed above to remember who people are. (Also, me and Jimmy are the same person. Felix was the other user who changed his name.)

Update: I have banned Jimmy for being a meanie weenie.
