PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

In Pokémon X, I wanted to catch a BUNCH of Dittos. So, I caught a Fearow on victory road. I taught it fly, protect, false swipe and drill run. If the Ditto uses false swipe or drill run it can't get knocked out, and if it uses fly, I can protect. Any other time I use false swipe and then a pokeball.

Now that you've seen my example, I was just wondering if anyone else has any good ideas for Pokemon designed to make catching easy, whether it's a specific Pokemon like my fearow, or general for any Pokemon.

And please don't just say "anything with thunder wave of course".

Let me present to you the best catching Pokémon you could ever have.

Bisharp

That's right, it's Bisharp. Now let me tell you exactly how amazing this thing is.

First of all, there's its typing. Steel resists a heck of a lot of types; no need to explain that. Dark is also pretty good, especially for catching Mewtwo or something similar.

Second, there's its ability. Defiant provides a nice boost to Bisharp's Attack when its stats are lowered, especially since False Swipe is a base 40 power move.

Third, it's capable of learning the moveset to become an amazing catcher.

Here's the set you should use:

False Swipe - Here's an obvious one. No need to gamble with other moves when you can reliably get the opponent down to 1 HP with this.

Thunder Wave - Even though it doesn't give quite as much of a boost as sleep when trying to catch a Pokémon, I prefer paralysis because it's permanent.

Taunt - If it's paralyzed and down to 1 HP, the only thing that can stop a Pokémon from being easy to catch is if it uses Recover or Roar (or any moves similar to these). Fortunately, Taunt easily solves this problem.

Night Slash - If you're trying to catch a Pokémon, there's a good chance you could accidentally start a trainer battle and/or will try to catch a Pokémon in a horde. False Swipe may be a good move for attacking, but it sucks when trying to KO anything. I chose Night Slash since it's a nice STAB.

You can use Bisharp to catch pretty much anything, but it has three main weaknesses: Ghost, Electric, and Ground types. This is because they can't be affected by False Swipe and Thunder Wave respectively. Octillery is nice because it can remove any types and abilities that stops Bisharp from doing its job. Here's the moveset that works best:

Octillery
Octillery @ [whatever you want]
Ability: Suction Cups
EVs: Who cares?
Nature: Who cares?
- Soak (gets rid of other typing)
- Entrainment (gets rid of other ability)
- Thunder Wave (paralysis)
- Surf (in case you run into something you don't want)

That's pretty much it. Happy catching!

Breloom

enter image description here

  • Spore
  • False Swipe
  • Stun Spore
  • Double Team

Well the last two moves can be whatever - they don't really matter. But Spore is guaranteed Sleep, and False Swipe won't kill anything. False Swipe is also powered up by Technician if Breloom has its hidden ability. I don't really think there is much more to say, although you will need to use something else if you want to catch a Ghost.

Ack, I was typing for like 10 minutes and you beat me by 40 seconds ~.~
yea but yours was more detailed - all I gave was a basic move set for Breloom
You'll also need something else for Grass types.  Just wanted to point that out.
To inflict a status you will, but you can still False Swipe them. Most pokemon aren't that hard to catch when they only have 1HP, regardless of their status.

A Pokemon with moves like Spore and Sleep Powder work great because a Pokemon that is asleep has double the capture rate. Thunder Wave also works well because it induces Paralysis, where the Pokemon has 1.5x the rate of capture. Both of these status conditions can make Pokemon not attack, so it is great for capture.

Another great move, as you said, is False Swipe, as it always leaves the Pokemon with 1 HP, making it have the highest capture rate it possibly can.

3 Pokemon can learn these moves: Paras, Parasect, and Shroomish. Here are sample movesets for capture:

enter image description here
Parasect (Defensive Capturing Pokemon) @ Leftovers
Relaxed Nature (^Def vSpd)
Ability: Effect Spore
EV Spread: 128 SpDef, 252 HP, 128 Def
Spore
False Swipe
Protect (For stalling)
Stun Spore (For Pokemon with Insomnia or other sleep-canceling abilities)

enter image description here
Breloom (Offensive Capturing Pokemon) @ Leftovers
Jolly Nature (^Spd vSpAtk)
Ability: Technician/Effect Spore
EV Spread: 252 Atk, 252 Speed, 4 HP
Spore
False Swipe
Protect
Force Palm (For chance of Paralysis for Pokemon with sleep-canceling abilities)
Mach Punch (If ability is Technician)

These two are susceptible to Ghost and Grass types, with the powder moves and such.

Catching Moveset for Gallade:

Item: Ring Target (You can catch ghost types)

Ability: Steadfast (Forget Fakeout)

Nature: Adamant ( + Atk / - S Atk )

EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd / 4 HP

False Swipe (An obvious catching move and you can use it 40 times.

Heal Pulse (Incase the Pokemon you're catching has a recoil move)

Protect (Just incase)

Hypnosis (Better chance of catching if it effects the Pokemon you're catching and the Pokemon can't move for a few turns)

You can catch anything that doesn't have explosion. This can work better if you know how to spam full restores.
