If I use Screech then Confuse Ray and a Pokemon was confused, will it deal more damage because its Defense is down, or should I use Metal Sound to reduce the SpD?

(I can't explain this so here's an example);
Sceptile is confused.
It hurt itself in its confusion.
Umbreon used Screech.
Sceptile's defense fell.
Sceptile is confused it hurt itself in its confusion.
ETC.
Would my Sceptile have hurt itself more before or after screech?

Let's say I clicked "Leaf Blade".

>The confused condition causes a Pokémon to hurt itself in its confusion 50% of the time. The damage is done as if the Pokémon attacked itself with a 40-power typeless physical attack.

To answer your question: It would have hurt itself more after Screech. That is because Screech lowers your defense by 2 stages and since hurting yourself in confusion is a typeless physical attack.

No.

Confusion has the same mechanic of Foul Play. The higher the target's attack is boosted, the more damage it does. This is similar to Confusion.

If a Pokemon's attack is bosted, then it does hurt itself more in it's confusion. That's the mechanic of the move Swagger. It boosts the opponents attack and confuses them, which makes them hurt themselves more. As far as I know, defense doesn't affect this.

Although it is still a physical move so defense also determines the damage like the other answer said.

You would lose more hp because "hurting yourself in confusion" is a typeless physical attack. You have your defense lowered, so you will lose more hp. Hopefully you get what I'm saying :) Hope I helped!
