I have done a little bit of research and have found the Blythe Intaglios in California, which are similar to the Nazca Lines in Peru. Could this be a good reason as to why Sigilyph was introduced?

does there have to be a reason that it was introduced in generation 5 specifically?
I think this counts as a game freak logic question.

All I know Unova was based off the USA and the Americas
Unova is based of of New York btw
Going to leave this up for a couple days in case anyone has a legitimate answer, but this most likely falls under Game Freak Logic. They didn’t really start caring about Pokémon matching the theme of the region until Gen 6.
Gen 5 still had a bunch of Pokemon based on American wildlife and history, like Victini, Patrat, Pidove, or Scraggy.

To fit with Pokemon lore. Pokemon has this thing where its Pokemon won’t be based off what the region is based off. Take Alola for example, a region based off Hawaii, and we have Toucannon, a Pokemon based off the toucan. Toucans can’t be found in Hawaii itself but in other tropical areas. Sigilyth was mainly designed to fit with the lore of the Desert Resort and Relic Castle. It shares the “ancient guardian role” with other Pokemon like Golurk.
