Why don't moderators use chat anymore?

Question

I have noticed that the rules are more strictly enforced on the Showdown! server, and I thought that it was because moderators use chat less often. According to Mew, the chat used to be a lot less messed up.

So does anybody know what exactly caused the chat to degrade to what it is now?

'degrade' is very opinionated. I prefer old chat, but new kids prefer new chat. They find it more personal and free. though that makes rules looser and harder to make people listen to.

Rules are not more enforced on the server. I'm not even sure why you would believe that. The server simply has more older users and thus less problems. Granted, I don't speak for all the server users, but mods and other older users frequent the server and not chat because chat has become obnoxious and filled with annoying users for the most part. There were other big things that led to the migration to the server, but what I said pretty much sums it up.

I did the same thing on the server and the chat room (in fact more in the chat room than the server) but I got banned from the server first.

sumwun, you got banned from the server because you came on just to say 'Is the chat dead?' for no real reason many times, thus being considered spam. Also to note is the fact that you were join spamming in my Monotype Finals battle earlier today, won't be shocked if you get globally banned one day ;P I don't know why Aranacana was banned though, can't remember.

So I can get away with spamming chat because the stuff that's going on in chat repels moderators?

But nobody ever reports me. In case you don't know, I got banned on the server for doing the exact same thing as I do in the chat room.

Chat's a little more lax and people notice less. You can be banned for being incredibly obnoxious, if not for very long.

It's pretty simple, and I'm going to be honest.

I'm almost 21. So is trachy. DT is older than both of us, and Scott is practically a dinosaur.

I can't be as active as I once was. I check in every now and then, but I NEVER use chat because the age gap is too much to bear. I'll go in there and check IPs, but that's it. I'll stop by the server most of the time, but I can't stand some of the people that go there either.

So yeah, we're busy or actively avoid it. It's not hard to reach that conclusion.

Yep, it's the age thing for me. I'm 21 and in college. I don't even hang out on the Showdown server too much. It's not that I don't want to, since I really enjoy talking to a lot of the people from here. I just don't have time for anything more than moderating for a few minutes a day and maybe posting on my wall.

I assume that's also why many of the older Experts and Editors also avoid chat. I've managed to stay active but barely. I can appreciate you guys being away so often.

Not like it matters at this point in time, but the activity could be a problem in the future. Eh, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
