Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SAtk
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Cotton Guard
- Discharge
- Heal Bell
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Is the 10% chance to paralyze worth choosing thunderbolt over just thunder?
EVERYBODY NEEDS TO READ THIS: Mega Ampharos is the ultimate special sweeper in a trick room team. His special attack is high enough to OHKO everything and his ability let's nothing be immune to the godlike power of Ampharos. Seriously. Just use him in Trick Room. Or just run an agility set.
Have you ever heard of ground type pokemon?
Have you ever heard about Skill?
Thats true but add ET just in case. Or magnet rise.
this poor creature
how could it ever live up to it's preevolution
it will be forgotten

Role: Bulky Sweeper

Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 120 Def / 252 SpA / 136 Spe
Modest Nature

  • Agility
  • Thunderbolt
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • Power Gem

Enough Bulk to Take most neutral hits that haven't been +1'd or + 2'd.

And nice Sweeping stats.

Agility makes up for that horrible speed, so he can actually sweep, Thunderbolt for hard hitting STAB, HP Ice for Ground coverage and for Dragons and Grass types.

And Power Gem for extra coverage.

Since all your moves are SpA moves, why not replace Leftovers with Wise Glasses? It'll help the power. Or the mega stone (Ampharosite) for high SpA?
@BlazeGamer: Leftovers is important recovery that could really help out in longer games. The idea is to be able to recover from guaranteed 2HKOes and turn them into 3HKOes and so on, so you have one more turn to defeat the opponent which in 99% of the cases is more power (total damage output) than with two turns of attacks boosted by Wise Glasses.

And once again, if you just LOOK AT THE DATE this was posted, you'll see this was before the Ampharosite or the concept of Mega Pokemon even existed.

Generation 5

I call it the "Cockblock Toxic Staller".

Ampharos (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 Def
Calm Nature

  • Cotton Guard
  • Cotton Spore
  • Toxic
  • Light Screen

First turn set up the spore, then guard for +3 Def boost. The light screen, go for a toxic and spore for more speed loss.

I'd put at least one attacking move here. He's completely screwed against a steel type.
ik, but still you can switch out
lol. rly? The Cockblock Toxic staller? (Edit in crazy pun here)
i would say.........noobish it is not a good set cuz if u fight against ground types u will defenatly(don't know spelling)lose
It's a goddamn Ampharos. You wouldn't use it against ground types...
I'd put Thunderbolt on it, because of Taunt/Steel types.
It's actually not super bad, although Ampharos isn't the ideal Pokemon for this kind of set because the lack of any recovery move outside of Rest means it's kinda easier to deal with than most walls.
Nature?

My typical set up is this:

Ampharos (F) @ Leftovers

Ampharos

Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 80 Def / 176 SpA
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Signal Beam
- Attract
- Reflect / Magnet Rise

  • Thunderbolt (powerful reliable STAB)
  • Signal Beam (coverage)
  • Attract (female Ampharos as male opponents are slightly more likely in-game, also male is the default for PO)
  • Reflect or Magnet Rise (helps reduce or prevent Earthquake damage)

I used to use Power Gem but I found it barely covers more than Signal Beam and is lower power.

Ampharos For OU

Gen 9 OU
Role: Bait that hits like a hammer
Ampharos (F) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Static
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dazzling Gleam
- Focus Blast
- Volt Switch
- Thunder

I have come to bring THE set. Ampharos shall be viable in OU! I’ve peaked 1413 on an alt named Droyfed while using this set. Ampharos is best used on a Rain team in OU, providing value as a rain abuser, Ground Type Baiter, and even wallbreaker. Ampharos has the incredible niche in OU of baiting out opposing Ground Types not named Clodsire and easily eliminating them. Why is Ampharos such good bait? Being in ZU, nobody realizes the wide coverage of Ampharos and just how hard it hits. By eliminating Ground types, Ampharos clears the way for Electro Shot Archaludon to get to work. It does take a little bit of prediction, but if predicted right, it grabs an easy KO.

Max HP is used to allow Ampharos to absorb as many hits as possible. Choice Specs gives Ampharos the power to punish these Ground Type switch-ins. Dazzling Gleam is used when Ground types such as Great Tusk, Gliscor, and Landorus-T are being baited. Focus Blast is used when baiting Iron Treads, Archaludon, and Excadrill. With Tera Fairy, Ampharos can 1 V 1 literally any Ground type not named Clodsire and OHKO Raging Bolt. Tera Fairy also allows Ampharos to be used as a Dragon Type immunity. If the opponent has no Ground Types, Volt Switch can be used to create momentum and still put holes into something. Thunder does around 50% to even G-Slowking, so not much will safety swap into this. Some Calcs:

252+ SpA Choice Specs Ampharos Dazzling Gleam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Great Tusk: 434-512 (100 - 117.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Ampharos Focus Blast vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Iron Treads: 526-620 (136.9 - 161.4%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fairy Ampharos Dazzling Gleam vs. 244 HP / 12 SpD Gliscor: 246-291 (69.8 - 82.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Poison Heal

252+ SpA Choice Specs Ampharos Focus Blast vs. 200 HP / 0 SpD Assault Vest Archaludon: 374-442 (100.8 - 119.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera Fairy Ampharos Dazzling Gleam vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Raging Bolt: 434-512 (104.8 - 123.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Ampharos Thunder vs. 252 HP / 240+ SpD Slowking-Galar: 186-219 (47.2 - 55.5%) -- 74.2% chance to 2HKO

Bulky coverage set; set up with rain and/or trick room, or replace a move of your choice with rain dance or trick room

The Zap-o-tron himself

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 128 Def / 128 SpD
Bold Nature
- Magnet Rise
- Thunder
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast

  • Magnet Rise (to escape earthquake)
  • Thunder (STAB, high power, sure hit with the rain)
  • Dragon Pulse (STAB)
  • Focus Blast (coverage)

Reflect to just reduce EQ damage is a big waste of both a turn and a moveset. There are better moves for it, because EQ is still gonna 2HKO even with Reflect up
I'll replace it with magnet rize then.
252+ Atk Huge Power Mega Mawile Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Ampharos: 534-630 (139 - 164%) -- guaranteed OHKO One of the most common things and Without swords Dance
Thanks for all the improvements everyone's giving me!

Role: Agility Sweeper

ampharos
Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Thunder / Thunderbolt / Discharge
- Dragon Pulse
- Focus Blast
- Agility

Explanation

With access to Agility, which can boost its abysmal speed, M-Ampharos can successfully utilize an Agility Sweeper set.

Thunder is good STAB, but has low accuracy. Thunderbolt can be used as a safer option because it has a higher accuracy. Discharge, on the other hand, gets a higher chance of Paralysis (which may suit better on defensively-oriented teams).

Dragon Pulse gets good STAB and decent neutral coverage. It also deals with Dragon-types.

Focus Blast gets coverage against Rock-types and Steel-types that would otherwise wall this set.

Agility is the main move of this set. It boosts its speed and can outspeed a lot of offensive threats. Note that it still isn't faster than Scarfed Garchomp, which is one of its main threats.

You should set-up Agility as soon as Ampharos is on the field. If you switch-in on a Pokemon that Ampharos clearly threatens, it'll switch-out, granting you a free turn to set-up.

Ampharos @Waterium Z

EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def

- Hidden Power [Water]
- Focus Blast

Set up a Z-Rain Dance, and sweep with pseudo stab HP water and perfect accuracy thunder.

Ampharos @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature

  • Thunderbolt
  • Cotton Guard / Dragon Pulse / Power Gem
  • Hidden Power [Ice]
  • Dragon Pulse / Power Gem

So this Ampharos would be OP if it were in Trick Room (TR) or Electric Terrain (ET), because ET would mean guaranteed OHKOs, and TR means actual sweeping. Apparently Mega Evolution helps it SpA more than Wise Glasses.

  • The move Thunderbolt is for STAB and works well against many opponents.

  • Cotton Guard is to raise it's bad Def, as SpD was already increased by EVs.

  • HP Ice is for coverage against resistances and weaknesses, as it's super effective against Ground, Grass, Dragon, which is most of all our problems.

  • Dragon Pulse would mean extra STAB from Mega Evolution, and kills any more dragons that need slaying.

Alternatives: Power Gem would mean super effectiveness against 4 types, including Ice (one of our weaknesses), and works better than Signal Beam.
Signal Beam isn't the best choice, but it does work decently as coverage against unprepared types like Grass and Dark. Watch out, Zarude!
Agility could work as your speed boost instead of Trick Room, as long as you're prepared.
Reflect / Light Screen would work to your advantage against most sweepers, but Brick Breakers would immediately smash your barrier. Be careful!
Counter could work, as to taking advantage of low Spe and Cotton Guard.
Iron Tail has decent coverage, high power but low accuracy. If you have trouble with accuracy for Iron Tail, choose another move.
Toxic would help deal more damage, but watch out for Steel or Poison types. It doesn't work against Immunity, either.
Heal Bell is a good support healing move to the rest of your party.
Outrage is a bit risky but powerhouse move if used correctly.
Focus Blast is a high damage-dealing move, but risky with the accuracy. However, it can get you out of plenty of bad scrapes.
Focus Punch is a powerhouse, but you need to predict your opponent. It is risky, however if used right, it's worth it, as it can easily wipe out the target, who's in for some trouble.
Electric Terrain if you don't have another Pokemon that can use ET, although it's recommended that you use TR and ET and then U-turn/Volt Switch/ just switch to Ampharos.
Facade against players who like to burn, paralyze or poison the opponent, dealing a double 140 damage if this does happen. Thould could easily wipe out nearly all of Toxic users and such.
Magnet Rise is good for annoying Ground-types for a while, so use that 5 turns to set up with the moveset you've chosen.
Fire Punch goes up for decent coverage against certain types such as Grass and Bug. Also helps against Ice.
That's it. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to comment!

  • Dragon Pulse: STAB

Uh Power Gem isn't STAB even on M-Amphy and I suggest Timid (+Spe -Atk) or Modest (+SpA -Atk) over Rash in a seemingly specially offensive Amphy ^^
I don't think karheipa knows what STAB move is, in-case they don't know, STAB stands for Same Type Attack Bonus, and means that moves with types that are shared with the Pokemon using the move have increased damage
Also, the ability static is overwritten by Mold Breaker because of Mega Ampharos's ability
oh ok i thought STAB means high damage

Gen 9 ZU (should be OU you Showdown users!)

Ampharos needs some glory!!!
Agility Sweeper

Ampharos @ Air Balloon
Ability: Static
Tera Type: Fairy / Flying / Electric
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Dazzling Gleam
- Thunderbolt
- Power Gem / Focus Blast
- Agility

With Air Balloon you get at least one turn without any weaknesses, maybe two if your opponent doesn’t know you have an Air Balloon.

That means at least getting off one Agility(unless you somehow get OHKOed). An Agility with the EV investments allows to outspeed non-scarfed Dugtrio, so, the entire unboosted Metagame. you to Then you attack. Thunderbolt is STAB. Dazzling Gleam and Power Gem are coverage. These three moves give perfect coverage in ZU. You could also choose Focus Blast over Power Gem for more powerful but less accurate coverage.

Tera Flying could possibly buy you a free turn and removes your Earth weakness. Tera Fairy turns Dazzling Gleam to STAB and turns the tide on Banded Outrage Flapple. Plus(get it) you’re guaranteed to OHKO Flapple in return. Tera Electric gives you more firepower.
