Before I start this I want everyone to know that this is not getting at anyone specifically and that it's just aimed at getting the Experts more active as a User type.
Sempiternus and I were talking about how the points system is kind of a pain and were discussing a reputation system instead. But then we realized that people work for points to get Expert as it's considered 'the next step up to another promotion'.
In reality, you get Expert for one reason. Your 'job' is to make questions readable, presentable and fix grammar mistakes. But most of us if not all of us never fix grammar in a post, so why do we have expert? You could argue it's more a reward, but if so, why trust Experts with editing powers if they aren't going to use them for what they're really meant for?
I also have started lacking in the "Grammar department" when it comes to editing as we pass it off as 'readable' or 'good enough' which is basically me just being lazy.
So really, if you've been trusted with Expert, don't sit there and think that it is now just something to add to your reputation. Find questions / answers / comments and make sure they're presentable, readable and have good grammar because at the moment we aren't really doing enough to maintain Expert as a helpful rank to the site.
