Meta-PokéBase Q&A

Before you think this is insane and downvote it, I'm going to try and address some of its major flaws. I feel like they cannot be fixed.

The users

The RMT is in a spot where someone posts an absolutely awful team and people don't give good enough advice (or advice that pales in comparison to smogon's), or when a really good player posts a great team which cannot be rated here because they're objectively better than everyone else at a specific format. The amount of actually knowledgeable team raters is ridiculously small, even smaller than the amount of good teams submitted there.

Replays thread

A large majority of replays there are straight-up boring, with nothing special about them. Outside of that, the replays are just the occasional good AG player replay and everything else is a sweep that happens on low ladder, someone being caught using terrible gimmicks, noob salt, or a Rock Slide miss being viewed as epic hax.

Possible ways to fix this

  • Cracking down on users who make bad posts on the RMT; the RMT is not moderated as well as Pokebase. There needs to be punishment for people who post low quality stuff.
  • Instead of clogging the RMT up with the **** we see today, which pushes actually good teams out of the spotlight in favor of trash, mods should just... not approve them? Instead of closing it, I think walling the poster would be better. Or maybe, close the post and after a few hours, hide it.
  • Control the amout of boring replays on the new battle replays thread

DONT BOOM RMT NO PLEASE LIKE REVAMP IT D:
Wut is smogon? I don't know how to use smogon...
https://www.smogon.com/

Smogon is the leading competitive pokemon community, where pretty much all of the best players have an account and they also have a more helpful rmt.
Bulbapedia has more information about Pokémon than us. Let’s destroy the entire site.
But PokeBase has many good things going for it that Bulbapedia doesn't. I don't see anything good that the RMT has over Smogon.
This is a very bold post. I honestly don't totally disagree, but RMT is also for TCG decks, so keep that in mind as well.
I don't think this will happen nor do I think it should. The RMTs problems can be addressed, and smogon has a bunch of q&a and Pokédex information, so by your logic we should remove almost the entire site.
The only thing that I really view as fixable is the replay thread
And this website is a lot more approachable than Smogon, at least in my opinion. And the people using this site are of this community, and it's wrong to say that just because someone else is doing something, you should give up (even if they're more successful). That's just inviting monopolies on subjects. But as others were quick to point out, your logic would suggest obliterating other sections of the site.

And PokemonDB has certain strengths over other sites with Pokemon data.
The overall data on this site might not be as extensive or in-depth as Bulbapedia, but Bulbapedia is a very slow site these days. It sometimes takes several minutes just to navigate to a page. Compare to this website, which runs silky smooth even on a Nintendo 3DS web browser.

I would personally feel more comfortable getting a rating from someone on this site, as I know this site well, rather than make an account on Smogon and ask.
That's just my personal mindset, obviously plenty of people don't care about that.
Plus, Smogon has a 13+ age rule. Even if you lie about your age or don't mention it, it's technically less inviting.

I think the RMT has a lot of room to grow but it still serves a function and removing it would be a shame. Much better to evolve and improve it.  I mean, it's not harming anything by existing. If you prefer Smogon you can just use Smogon.
Yeah, we should make RMT get revamped. It has some things(not a lot but some)over Smogon too.
Imo taking away RMT would be setting a bomb in one of the main sections and letting it get destroyed. We can at least try to save RMT.
Also Your Excellency I want to know how to upvote comments lol your comment was awesome
Showdown has an age rule too. The Database is also much more accessible and quicker than Smogon. How will the removal of the RMT destroy the main section?
Rmt is one of the main sections with Q@A and Meta.
Lets destroy this sight lol because Bulbapedia is better lol

Whose side are you on? Me and Your Excellency both said that Bulbapedia has its fair share of problems and that PokeBase has good things going for it, yet somehow you were compelled to post that.
I don't disagree with your points but I do not believe that they suggest that the whole section should be wiped out. Yes, a large portion of it might be low quality or outclassed, but is anything really gained from actively removing the whole thing instead of just ignoring it if you aren't interested? It isn't costing anything to exist and it might occasionally offer something of value to somebody.

At the very least some extensive effort should be made to attempt to improve it before deletion is considered, even if you aren't optimistic about how effective it would be. Still, I don't see any clear benefits to throwing away the whole thing.
also can we talk about how almost half the questions on rmt seem to be unanswered? i would help if i was good at competitive lol
I'm on Your Excellencys side lol I clearly said that as a joke lol it had lol lol
To honest I doubt any of the new users actually read the rules or if they even find it within their first week here. From what I can tell people just post questions without clicking that thing that says pls read rules first
My take; if its removed, within two weeks you'll get a bunch of users asking to have an RMT section, or trying to post it on Pokebase. That's just how it is.

We lose nothing by keeping it, and gain very little by losing it. Redudancy is an argument, but only if it takes resources up imo.
I dont even use the section, but it shouldnt be removed. It needs to be more heavily moderated if it's to be for the more competitive players. The replays thread could be either removed or the bad replays could be hidden. The userbase of the section isnt something we can change, other than cracking down on the users that make poor quality posts.
Perhaps roles could be added by PM that allow users to moderate posts exclusively on RMT? I feel like this would better help the community achieve the RMT that they want. I don't believe any mods are too active in actually posting in the section, so it might be beneficial for this to happen, as it would allow us to promote users that would moderate RMT well, but we dont necessarily want moderating the rest of the site, if that makes sense.
I don’t really agree with removing the replays thread. A new thread has just been posted, and I hope it won’t be cluttered as much, as we can flag answers that clutter it to be hidden.
And yes I agree with the last part, we may require RMT specific Mods.
By removed, I meant a new one would be put up. I didnt realize that had already been done.
Fine. Is everyone happy now?
While I personally thought of the not approving "trash posts", it might lead to people constantly asking why this or that wasn't approved. It also won't help anyone to get better at/learn competitive. (These are just my thoughts tho)
This is quite the controversial post. Though i do agree with it. Some pokebasers just don't enjoy or have the competitive knowledge to rate long teams, which results in most questions in the rmt going unanswered for years. We could allow in game teams and it might help but we're just better off deleting the battle subway all together and all it's "glorious" memories and leave the actual competitive work to smogon, a site that is literally dedicated to competitve. While sites like bulbapedia provide more detailed info than pdb, pdb specialises in having a system of interacting with other people to help you with almost any Pokémon related question you have.
The RMT absolutely should not be terminated, but I do agree we need to do a better job of moderating it.

And what happens if we got rid of the RMT? Competitive play questions are still Pokemon-related questions. Getting rid of it could very effectively turn new users away from the site. Just because another site does it better doesn't mean we shouldn't do it as well.
