Share your best in-game teams for Pokemon X and Y on this thread! Teams should be aimed toward making casual runs of the game efficient, enjoyable and hassle-free.

Please follow these guidelines regarding detail in your post:

  1. For every Pokemon on the team, give recommended moves for use throughout the playthrough. Ideally, comment on more than just the four moves you'll finish with post-game.
  2. You can include items, abilities, etc. but they are not necessary.
  3. Provide explanation and detail. Justify your Pokemon and moveset choices; possible discussion points include ease-of-use, team synergy, and coverage for key battles.

Please also follow these guidelines regarding the contents of your team:

  1. If you recommend a Pokemon that is restricted by version exclusivity, trade evolution or events, please mention alternatives for people who cannot get the Pokemon. Do the same if you recommend moves, etc. that are only available by breeding or grinding.
  2. There are some unspoken rules of in-game teams, such as to keep the starter on the team and avoid legendaries. It's kind to give other options if you break these rules.
  3. Do not recommend Pokemon, moves, etc. that are only available through glitches and cheats. Please also avoid Pokemon etc. that are only available through trade or transfer.
  4. Original content only. You may use ideas you found elsewhere, but do not steal written content.

Note - This team is sort of like a hard mode. It's not the easiest to play with, and it's meant to be played on Set mode. I would only recommend this team for experienced players who want a new play through to be more challenging.

Chestnaught w/Miracle Seed
Catch Location: Given as Starter
Item Location: Route 7/Couriway Town
Ability: Overgrow

• Seed Bomb (Lvl. 35)
• Brick Break (TM - Terminus Mine Shaft)
• Bulk Up (Lvl. 44)
• Wood Hammer (Lvl. 55)

Chesnaught is on here for two reasons: He's a tank with good attack, and he's hard to use due to being a Grass type. The main strategy with him is to use Bulk Up and then Brick Break for anything weak to Fighting, Seed Bomb for anything weak or neutral to Grass, or Bulk Up and Wood Hammer for anything that needs a real hit to KO.

Aegislash w/Leftovers
Catch Location: Route 6 as Honedge
Evolution Stone Location: Terminus Cave 2F/Team Flare Grunt, Laverne Town, pre-Elite Four
Item Location: Route 12, Requires HM Cut
Ability: Stance Change

• Shadow Claw (TM - Glittering Cave)
• Iron Head (Lvl. 42)
• Sacred Sword (Lvl. 47)
• King's Shield (Learned as Doublade at 51-55)

Aegislash has ok speed, with good attack and a good typing. Shadow Claw takes care of Ghost/Psychic, Iron Head will take care of any Poison types when Gardevoir can't, and Sacred Sword and Kong's Shield make a good combo. You can get a Dusk Stone at either location, and I couldn't find a definite level on King's Sheild, so that could be replaced with Swords Dance if you don't want to wait til early-mid 50's to evolve.

Charizard w/Charizardite
Catch Location: Given as a gift after defeating Prof. Sycamore
Item Location: Given as a gift after defeating Prof. Sycamore
Ability: Blaze

• Wing Attack to Dragon Claw (Wing Attack - Lvl. 36) [Dragon Claw - TM - Victory Road
• Fly (HM - Part of story of attaining Plant Badge)
• Flamethrower (Lvl. 47)
• Dig (TM - Shalour City Pokémart, $10,000)

Easy pick. Flamethrower takes care of Grass and the Ice difficulty faced by three separate members, Fly is one of the best Flying Moves in the game for taking care of Fighting and Grass, and Dig is for Electric types since no other member can take care of them until much later. Wing Attack is if you need a faster Flying move, and it has good power. It's kind of a wild card, and it could be replaced. Mega-Evolve if you like that or need it, otherwise, I would recommend finding the Flame Plate or Charcoal.

Gardevoir w/Quick Claw
Catch Location: Route 4 as Ralts
Item Location: Lumiose City, office building across from Picture Café
Ability: Synchronize
• Magical Leaf (Lvl. 22)
• Calm Mind (Lvl. 33)
• Psychic (Lvl. 40)
• Shadow Ball (TM - Terminus Cave)

Pretty basic. Calm Mind, then Psychic or Shadow Ball. Shadow Ball is for Ghost types when Aegislash can't be used, and Magical Leaf is a two parter, being a good Grass type move early on, and a place holder due to any other good move being too late in the game. The Mind Plate also works but Gardevoir is fragile, so it's better if you have a chance of goin first automatically.

Tyrantrum w/ Hard Rock
Catch Location: Gifted as Fossil in Glittering Cave
Item Location: Granite Cave
Ability: Big Jaws

• Dragon Tail (Lvl. 30)
• Dragon Claw (Lvl. 37)
• Earthquake (Lvl. 47)
• Stealth Rock (Lvl. 15)

This is a rough one. Tyrantrum is your best defense against Dragon types, which is the main reason he's on the team. Stealth Rock is there mainly because of switch-in's being annoying in this game, and also for Flying types. Earthquake is the better Earth type move, but it comes late in the game, so it could be swapped for a Dig TM until you learn it.

Raichu w/ Magnet
Catch Location: Santalune Forest as Pikachu
Evolution Stone Location: Back of Rock-Filled section of Route 10
Item Location: Kalos Power Plant
Ability: Static

• Thunderbolt (Lvl. 29)
• Electro Ball (Lvl. 18)
• Slam (Lvl. 26)
• Nuzzle (Lvl. 23)

The best Flying type defense. Learns Thunderbolt fairly early, one of the few to learn Nuzzle, and is fairly fast so Electro Ball is pretty useful. All in all, a solid team member, if fragile.

Pokemon Y Team- Delphox, Venusaur, Lanturn, Aerodactyl, Sylveon and Aegislash

Delphox-

Moves:
Flamethrower
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Dazzling Gleam/Grass Knot/Will-o-Wisp/Toxic

The starter, and an oddly hated starter for some reason. I mean, come on guys, at least it's not Emboar (a Fire/Fighting starter, that's never been done before!), right? Flamethrower and Psychic for it's STAB attacks, followed by Shadow Ball for a nice coverage option. Dazzling Gleam can be useful against Dark and Dragon types that could give it trouble. Grass Knot can help against Rock, Ground, and Water types. Will-o-Wisp or Toxic can be used if you want it's last slot for a status condition.

Venusaur-

Moves:
Energy Ball/Petal Dance
Sludge Bomb/Venoshock
Earthquake
Toxic/Leech Seed

Energy Ball or Petal Dance can be Grass STAB, depending on if you want consistency or power more. Sludge Bomb or Venoshock can be Poison STAB, and Venoshock can work well if you have Toxic on your moveset. I would say also put Earthquake on Venusaur for coverage. For the last slot, you can give Venusaur Toxic, as it will never miss if used by a Poison type in this generation. You can also use Leech Seed if you want some health recovery.

Lanturn-

Moves:
Surf
Thunderbolt
Ice Beam
Thunder Wave

Lanturn is a great Pokemon with an amazing typing, and a great ability in Volt Absorb. Surf and Thunderbolt are really good STAB moves, Ice Beam is great and rounds out the BoltBeam coverage. Thunder Wave is one of the best status moves in the game.

Aerodactyl-

Moves:
Fly
Stone Edge
Earthquake
Crunch/Thunder Fang/Dragon Claw

Fly and Stone Edge are both great STAB options for Aerodactyl. Earthquake is there because having another Pokemon know the best move in the game is never a bad option. For the last slot, you can use Crunch for coverage against Psychic and Ghost types, or Thunder Fang against Water types. Dragon Claw can also be used since it's nice to be able to combat Dragon types, although with Fairy types being introduced in this game, it's not as necessary.

Sylveon-

Moves:
Moonblast
Psyshock
Reflect
Light Screen

Sylveon is a great Eeveelution, and one of the best types in the game. Moonblast is obvious STAB, Psyshock is there for coverage and to hit Pokemon with high Special Defense. Reflect and Light Screen are there for some nice support.

Aegislash-

Moves:
Iron Head/Flash Cannon
Shadow Ball/Shadow Claw/Shadow Sneak
Sacred Sword
King's Shield

Iron Head or Flash Cannon can be used as STAB. Shadow Ball or Shadow Claw/Sneak can be used as STAB. If you go with a physical STAB, go with the special STAB on the other type. For example, if you go with Iron Head, also go with Shadow Ball. The reason I say this is because Aegislash has a magnificent 150 base Attack and Special Attack. Don't let those stats go to waste! Sacred Sword is a great move to be used for coverage. King's Shield is a must have because it's part of the reason Aegislash is so great.

Pokemon X Team- Greninja, Charizard, Jolteon, Lucario, Goodra and Gardevoir

Greninja-

Moves:
Surf
Ice Beam
Dark Pulse/Night Slash
Acrobatics/Waterfall/Extrasensory/Hydro Pump

Ah, good old Greninja. My favorite Water type Pokemon and favorite starter of all. Surf for STAB, and Ice Beam for coverage to start off. Dark Pulse or Night Slash can be used for Dark STAB depending if you wanna go the physical or special route. For the last slot, Acrobatics or Extrasensory can be used as coverage options. Waterfall or Hydro Pump can be used for additional Water STAB if you want. Since Greninja is a mixed attacker, I would recommend taking advantage of both special and physical attacking moves.

Charizard-

Moves:
Flamethrower
Fly
Dragon Claw
Earthquake

The most popular Pokemon in existence, with only Mewtwo and maybe Pikachu coming close in popularity, we have Charizard. And since this is Pokemon X, we have it's stellar Mega Charizard X evolution! A black Fire/Dragon type with blue flames, with solid speed and incredible attacking stats and a stellar movepool to boot! Could you ask for anything more? Well tbh the Ground immunity turning into a weakness is kinda weaksauce, but at least no 4x Stealth Rock problem right? Anyways, Flamethrower for STAB, Fly for it's non-Mega STAB and helpfulness in getting around the region, and Dragon Claw for it's Mega STAB. Earthquake is coverage and never a bad idea to have on multiple Pokemon, being arguably the best move in the game.

Jolteon-

Moves:
Thunderbolt
Charge Beam/Volt Switch/Hidden Power
Shadow Ball
Thunder Wave

Jolteon, as an Eeveelution, as an Electric type, and as a Pokemon in general, faces steep competition. However, it outshines all, being my favorite Eeveelution and one of my top 10 favorite Pokemon. Amazing stats (especially that blistering speed and wicked special attack), killer ability that gives it an immunity to Electric moves, and it being the best type in the game are all reasons Jolteon is the ideal Electric type, and Electric is also the best type on top of that! Jolteon's only downside is it's movepool is kind of shallow, but it still works. Thunderbolt is STAB, Charge Beam is for set-up, Volt Switch is utility, and Hidden Power is a guarenteed 60 BP coverage move that you should use if you get a good type (Ice, Grass, Water). Shadow Ball is coverage, and is buffed from this generation onwards. Thunder Wave rounds out the set nicely and is one of the best status moves in the game.

Lucario-

Moves:
Aura Sphere
Close Combat
Flash Cannon
Stone Edge/Extremespeed

Yeah, this team is full of arguably "overrated" Pokemon, but the Pokemon I chose for this team are all popular for very good reasons, due to their good design, stats, moves, and overall usability. Lucario is very popular and no exception to anything I said in the previous sentence. Anyways, Aura Sphere and Close Combat for STAB, since no other Pokemon on the team really has a fighting move, so having both physical and special STAB is nice. Flash Cannon is also STAB, and no longer redundant coverage as of this generation since Steel hits the OP Fairy type for super effective damage, so Flash Cannon can be very useful. Stone Edge is a nice move, since there isn't a Rock move on the team, but Extremespeed can be used if you want, and has some nice priority.

Goodra-

Moves:
Dragon Pulse
Sludge Bomb
Earthquake
Toxic

Goodra here takes the spot of "cutest Psuedo Legendary Pokemon" from Dragonite who held said title for 5 generations. It should feel proud! Besides being one of the cutest and most adorable final stage evolutions, Goodra has excellent stats by nature of being a psuedo-legendary. Dragon Pulse is STAB, Sludge Bomb is coverage against Fairy types (plus Goodra has better Sp. Attack than Attack), and Earthquake is always nice to have, especially since TM's are infinite in this game. Toxic is a great stalling move as Goodra has some really great resistances to Fire, Water, and Electric, as well as a potential immunity to Grass if you get Sap Sipper as the ability (which you definitely should). Plus Goodra evolves at level 50 so it's a very reasonable evolution level. Unlike the psuedo-legendary from the generation before who doesn't evolve until practically level 100...

Gardevoir-

Moves:
Psychic
Moonblast
Shadow Ball
Focus Blast/Energy Ball

Gardevoir is an amazing Psychic type, who gains the excellent Fairy sub typing, as well as an awesome Mega evolution in this game. Psychic and Moonblast are STAB. Shadow Ball is a good coverage option that nails Gardevoir's Ghost weakness and hits many types for good neutral damage, as Dark is the only type that resists Ghost from this game forth. Focus Blast can be used in the last slot for coverage, or you can go with Energy Ball instead if you wish, since this team is lacking a Grass type, and one of the E4 members is a Water trainer.

This is a team that I am currently trying out for my Pokemon Y play through, so here it goes! Note: I am soft resetting for natures and using Super Training for the EVs. this is completely optional, but will help you in the future.

The starter should be obvious for this will be a team based on the water starter Froakie:

Greninja
Nature: Hasty/Naive
4ATk / 252SpA / 252Spe
Ability: Torrent
- Surf (HM03)
-Waterfall (HM05)
- Ice Beam (obtained after beating Wulfric in Snowbelle City)
-Dark Pulse (Route 16)

Greninja's EVs and nature allow him to be a specially biased mixed attacker. This set also turns Greninja into an HM slave to help you traverse through the Kalos region. some other moves can be used instead such as night slash (for critical hits) or even Extrasensory (for a fighting type coverage option).

and for my Kanto starter, I chose Bulbasaur:

Venusaur@Venusaurite
Nature: Relaxed/Bold
EVs: 252HP / 252Def / 4SpA
Ability: Overgrow (Thick Fat after mega evolving)
- Leech Seed (comes with Bulbasaur)
- Synthesis (Level 45)
- Energy Ball/Petal Dance (Route 20/Level 32)
- Sludge Bomb (Route 19)

It's kind of a shame Venusaur doesn't get Giga Drain like I thought without breeding... but Mega-Venusaur still has a lot of versatility behind it, and a lot of healing power. Leech Seed helps with a passive recovery (since you can't hold leftovers) and Synthesis is a last resort. Energy Ball on Mega-Venusaur is preferred due to no confusion drawbacks and a potential SpDef drop, but Petal Blizzard just has more power. Sludge Bomb is reliable STAB for Mega-Venusaur with a really nice 30% poison rate. On my Venusaur I got a relaxed nature, but Bold is preferred to not drop your speed.

Next up is really easy to find, and really powerful late game (shame I can't get the HA tho until post game)... but here is teammate #3, Fletchling:

Talonflame
Nature: Naive/Hasty/Jolly
252Atk / 4SpA / 252 Spe
Ability: Flame Body
- Fly (HM02)
- Flamethrower/Flare Blitz (Anistar City Pokemart/Move Relearner)
- Roost (level 25 as Fletchinder)
- Swords Dance/Return (Lumiose Pokemart/Route 4)

Talonflame is one Pokemon that you should definitely get your hands on! with Blazing speed, and a decent 81/74 offense, Talonflame is meant for a quick sweep. Fly is also helpful to get you around Kalos in a flash. Flare Blitz is a strong Fire STAB option Talonflame has to offer with his base 81 ATk, but Flamethrower is a weaker alternative if you don't like recoil. Roost helps a lot especially if you are using Flare Blitz, and Swords Dance can help boost your attack to Sky High levels. Return is an alternative if you decide to run Flamethrower.

The next 2 Pokemon are found in the same area (route 6) being Honedge and Espurr. Note: I recommend getting a female Espurr due to how Meowstic-F is more offensive than Meowstic-M (and Meowstic-M is only good with his HA Prankster).

Aegislash
Nature: Adamant/Brave/Sassy
252HP / 252ATk / 6SpD (or alternatively 252 HP / 6Atk / 252 SpD)
Ability: Stance Change
- Swords Dance (Learned as Honedge)
- Kings Shield (i think it gets this from evolving from Doublade, but if not, then Move Relearner)
- Shadow Sneak (Level 20 as Honedge)
- Sacred Sword/Toxic (Move Relearner or lv 51 as Doublade/Route 14)

Aegislash is not only an offensive powerhouse, but also a fortified wall! When I say this Pokemon slays, it SLAYS. Swords Dance is the initial set up move that brings Aegislash's Attack really high, allowing it to hit HARD with moves such as Shadow Sneak (for priority), and Sacred Sword (which can also ignore any of the opponent's defense boosts). Kings Shield allows Aegislash to revert back into its tanky form, and punishes Attackers who make contact by lowering their attack by 2 stages. Toxic is an alternative if you are running a Sassy nature for stalling.

Meowstic-F
Nature: Modest/Timid
252 SpA / 4SpD / 252 Spe
Ability: Infiltrator/Keen Eye
- Psychic/Psyshock (Level 40/Level 25)
- Shadow Ball (Level 31)
- Thunderbolt/Signal Beam (Lumiose Gym/Level 45)
- Charge Beam/Calm Mind (Level 28/Anistar Gym)

Meowstic is a Pokemon I have been debating for a while, and Meowstic is not what it seems. Sure it does have undesirable stats, but its move pool is colossal. Psychic or Psyshock are used as the Psychic type STAB options and Shadow Ball is primarily for Ghost type coverage that can also hit other Psychics. Thunderbolt is a strong coverage move used to hit a wider variety of Pokemon, while Signal beam is used to deal with opposing dark types. Charge beam works same as Thunderbolt, but it can raise your SpAttack, but Calm Mind does the same but also with SpDef. Remember, this set only works with FEMALE Espurr

Last but not least, we have our fossil Pokemon. This one has been my favorite since I first saw it. Here is the 6th member of the Pokemon Y team, Tyrunt:

Tyrantrum
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
252Atk / 4Def / 252Spe
Ability: Strong Jaw
- Stone Edge (Frost Cavern)
- Dragon Claw (Level 37 as Tyrunt)
- Earthquake (Level 47)
- Crunch (Level 34 as Tyrunt)

Tyrantrum is the King of all Fossil Pokemon, and for a good reason. Tyrantrum's Ability, and high attack help it perform as a class A wall breaker. Stone Edge is Tyrantrum's main STAB option, and hits Ice Types for super effective damage. Dragon Claw is also really strong and helps target in game threats such as Elite four Drasna, and even Diantha's Goodra. Earthquake is coverage and a strong move anyway, and Crunch is another coverage option that is boosted by Strong Jaw.

This team I believe will work well for me in my Pokemon Y play through, but the team is still in development. I also realize that there are better options for some Pokemon (for example Gardevoir over Meowstic-F). This team will also be a little more challenging without Super Training and nature picking, but it is a play through. I hope this team will probably be somewhat useful.

To fight elite four my strategy is using Krookodile or Greninja to fight first Elite four (Fire type), then using Krookodile or Charizard again to fight second Elite four (Steel type), then using Krookodile again with outrage or gardevoir (Dragon Type), and then for the final elite four(Water type)im using Gardevoir, Use Calm mind 2-3 times then spam Thunderbolt, for the champion Diantha Use Aegislash for Diantha Mega Gardevoir but be careful, Diantha gardevoir have Shadow ball so yeah my tips is use sword dance 2 times then use full restore or max potion, Use charizard to defeat diantha aegislash, use krookodile to defeat diantha tyrantum, use hawlucha to defeat diantha amaurasaurus and then use gardevoir to defeat diantha goodra

Just got a Nintendo 3DS, so here we go

  1. Chesnaught.
    I know, Chesnaught isn't the best starter, but it's pretty dang useful as a pokèmon, given that it learns some decent coverage moves.
    The moves are:
    a.) Vine Whip--> Needle Arm--> Seed Bomb--> Wood Hammer (main STAB)
    b.) Rock Smash--> Brick Break or Hammer Arm (Fighting STAB)
    c.) Rollout--> Stone Edge/Rock Tomb (Fire and Flying coverage)
    d.) Gyro Ball (Ice type coverage)

  2. Blastoise:
    While the popular and, probably, the best choice for the Kanto starter is Charizard, Blastoise wins this one because I personally like the character, and also because I dislike the other Water type options in Kalos. Plus it mega evolves.
    The moves I used on it were:
    a.) Surf--> Hydro Pump (main Water STAB)
    b.) Ice Beam (Grass coverage)
    c.) Earthquake (Electric coverage)

    Since fairy types came into picture, Gardevoir is a great option to have in a team, you can Ralts fairly early after Santalune City and it's fairly straightforward evolution after that.

    b) Moonblast ( Fairy STAB)
    c) Shadow Ball (Poison and ghost coverage)
    d) Calm Mind (Healing)

A.) Aegislash
So I went up straight Honedging when I caught one. This Good easily tormented Korrina till death with it's extraordinary typing and moveset.
The moves were, in case you need an Aegislash:
a) Flash Cannon (main Steel STAB)
b) Shadow Ball (Ghost STAB) ( Thankfully, you can reuse your TMs)
c) Sacred Sword
d) King Shield (signature Aegislash coverage moves).

B.) Bisharp
Later in the game though, I came across the fact that you can trade a Jigglypuff for a Bisharp in the city that has Wulfric's gym, and since it is a personal favourite ( I love Pokèmon who are based on sharp stuff, like Gallade, Scizor or in this case Bisharp), so I replaced Aegislash with him. Aegislash is cool and all, but I didn't want to use my Dusk Stone on him, since I had one more contender for it.
The moves were:
a) Night Slash/ Feint Attack (dark STAB)
b) Metal Claw--> Iron Head (Steel STAB)
c) Aerial Ace (Fighting coverage)
d) Stone Edge (Fire coverage)

A) Talonflame
I've never used the main flying type for any generation in any core series games, so I was a bit nervous about that when I chose against Fennekin and Charmander, and its pretty cool that she isn't a Norman Flying type.
The moves were
a) Ember-->Flamethrower (main Fire STAB)
b) Peck--> Brave Bird/Acrobatics (Flying STAB) (chose Acrobatics if you don't prefer recoil)
c) Fly (HM)
d) Solar Beam ( Rock type coverage)

B) Chandelure
Chandelure was another personal favourite from the Black and White games, again, due to unique typing and crazy Pokedex descriptions, so when I got rid of Aegislash, I knew straight away that this is what I'm picking. I still used Talonflame for the HM Fly, but Chandelure was my main Fire type now.
The moves are
a) Hex/Shadow Ball (main Ghost STAB)
b) Flame Burst (Fire STAB)
c) Dark Pulse (Dark and Ghost type coverage)
d) Solar Beam (Ground type coverage)

6) Flygon
For this spot, I believe most would go with Garchomp, and that's the exact reason why I went with this dragonoid insect from Hoenn.
The moves are:
a) Bulldoze (Ground STAB)
b) Dragon Tail (Dragon STAB)
c) Steel Wing (Dragon and Ice type coverage)
d) Flamethrower (Ice coverage)

I do recommend Bibarel for Strength, Cut and WHirlpool and any other random Water type for Waterfall and Pangoro for Rock Smash as HM Slaves.

I know it's 2020 and this thread is from all the back in 2014 or so, but I wanted to include my team for Pokemon X. I have my own rules where I am mostly limited to level-up moves, I do not use the second starter given to me by Sycamore, or use the free Lucario given to me. EVs or Natures are not at all necessary due to this being just an in-game team, but I added some anyway.


Delphox (Fire/Psychic)
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature (+SPD, -ATK. This is optional.)
~ Flamethrower
~ Psychic
~ Shadow Ball
~ Grass Knot

The first two moves are STAB, Shadow Ball is for that Ghost coverage, and Grass Knot is for Water, Rock, and Ground coverage. Even with a limited movepool, Delphox can take care of most of its weaknesses.


Mienshao (Fighting)
Ability: Inner Focus
EVs: 100 HP / 156 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+SPD, -SP.ATK.)
~ Drain Punch
~ Stone Edge
~ Payback / Bounce / Acrobatics
~ Poison Jab

Mienshao is great, period. Stone Edge takes care of that flying weakness, Poison Jab for that fairy weakness, and Payback for that Psychic weakness. Bounce or Acrobatics can replace Payback. Mienshao has some awesome speed so be sure to take advantage of it.

Aerodactyl (Rock/Flying)
Ability: Rock Head
EVs: 232 Atk / 40 Def / 236 Spe
Adamant Nature (+ATK, -SP.ATK)
~ Iron Head
~ Thunder Fang
~ Earthquake

This one was fairly difficult. Even though I'm still not satisfied with this move set, it'll have to do. Fly isn't a must-have, but if you want to travel to places faster I do recommend it. If you don't want to use Fly, you can use Rock Slide. It's difficult to cover both Aerodactyl's weaknesses and it's usefulness with Clemont.

Clawitzer (Water)
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 100 HP / 252 SpA / 156 Spe
Modest Nature (+SP.ATK, -ATK)
~ Dragon Pulse
~ Surf
~ Sludge Wave
~ Aura Sphere

I wanted to take advantage of Clawitzer's Mega Launcher ability, so using Dragon Pulse with this ability makes it 50% stronger. Clawitzer will have an amazing chance with Drasna and her Dragon Types and can take out Malva's Pokemon in no time. You can change Surf out for Water Pulse after you beat the league!

Ampharos (Electric) @ Ampharosite

Ampharos is my baby, so having them on my team is yes. With their mega evolution, they get the amazing Dragon typing which can help with Drasna. Ampharos can take down Siebold quickly, and with Power Gem can take on Malva. This Pokemon is extremely cute and useful!

Drapion (Dark/Poison)
Ability: Sniper
EVs: 252 / Atk 4 / Def 252 Spe
Jolly Nature (+SPD, -SP.ATK)
~ Night Slash
~ Cross Poison
~ Ice Fang
~ Earthquake

Drapion only has one weakness, it being Ground. Ice Fang can be used for coverage, and can take on Drasna's Dragon Types, Night Slash for Olympia's Psychic types, Cross Poison for Valerie's Fairies, and Earthquake for Malva's Fire Types. Drapion looks amazing and is amazing in battle.

Delphox(Fire / Psychic)

Delphox is the starter of your team. Its excellent Sp. Atk and Speed make it a hard hitting Pokemon.
Flamethrower and Psychic are STAB. Shadow Ball is coverage on Ghost types, and Grass Knot is for Ground, Water and Rock types, mainly Ground and Rock. This is a very strong Pokemon that will get you through many battles.

Heliolisk(Electric / Normal)

Trait: Dry Skin/Sand Veil
-Thunderbolt
-Surf
-Grass Knot
-Dark Pulse/Focus Blast

Heliolisk has a pretty diverse moveset. Thunderbolt is STAB, and Surf for Fire coverage if you have Dry Skin ablilty. Grass Knot is better on Ground types than Surf because most Ground type Pokemon are heavy. The last move is a choice. Dark Pulse for Psychic and Ghost Pokemon, and Focus Blast if you want to hit Steel types. Heliolisk is also the only Pokemon to take on Siebold. Also, it can wipe the floor with AZ's team.

Pangoro(Dark / Fighting)

Trait: Iron Fist/Mold Breaker

Pangoro is the Fighting type of the team and the only counter against Grant and Olympia.

The last move is Earthquake/Dragon Claw/Stone Edge. Earthquake is there because Earthquake is good. Dragon Claw is for Dragons, and Stone Edge is for Flying types.

Both Pokemon's movesets revolve around Mega Launcher, but there is Ice Beam for Grass coverage. Note that you get Squirtle earlier than Clauncher, and that when you catch Clauncher it will be underleveled.

Crobat(Flying / Poison)

Trait: Inner Focus
-Fly
-Acrobatics
-Cross Poison
-X-Scissor

Crobat is the flier of the team. Its has high Speed and good Attack, making it an overall great Pokemon on the team. Acrobatics is Crobat's main STAB, and will do 110 damage without an item. X-Scissor is Psychic coverage, and Cross Poison is also STAB.

Nidoking/queen(Ground / Poison)

Nidoking/queen or snorlax are the variety members of the team. Both have diverse movepools that can handle a lot of different Pokemon. Both have solid stats, so they're great all-arounders.

For Nidoking/queen, Earthquake and Poison Jab will be your main STAB, but Poison Jab can also be replaced by Sludge Bomb as well. Thunderbolt/Ice Beam is Water/Ground coverage, and Shadow Ball/Flamethrower is Psychic/Ice coverage. Nidoking/queen, with its all-around stats plays a great role of a mixed attacker. You really can't go wrong with this Pokemon.

Snorlax on the other hand, has less moves to choose from due to its mediocre Sp. Atk, but still has some good moves to choose from.
For Snorlax, Return is your strongest STAB move, with 102 Power at max happiness. Heavy Slam will make use of Snorlax's weight, and Earthquake is there for all the Electric Pokemon, as if you choose to use Snorlax, you wont have Nidoking/queen's Ground typing. The last move is a filler, but Crunch and Wild Charge work very well.

Chesnaught @ Miracle Seed / Black Belt
Ability: Overgrow
- Seed Bomb (Level 35)
- Brick Break (TM in Terminus Cave)
- Poison Jab (TM purchased from the Shalour City PokeMart)
- Strength (HM) / Body Slam (Level 48)

Seed Bomb and Brick Break are reliable STAB moves. Poison Jab covers Chesnaught’s weakness to Fairy. Body Slam is neutral coverage. Strength can be used if you don’t have it anywhere else on your team, but it’s a bit weaker than Body Slam.


Pyroar @ Silk Scarf / Charcoal
Ability: Unnerve
- Flamethrower (Level 38)
- Hyper Voice (Level 48)
- Dark Pulse (TM on Route 15)
- Will-O-Wisp (TM on Route 14)

Flamethrower and Hyper Voice are solid STAB moves. Dark Pulse is a nice coverage move. Will-O-Wisp is a support move because Pyroar’s special movepool is incredibly shallow.

Surf is STAB, and a necessary HM. Flash Cannon is a nice coverage move, and helps against major Trainers like Valerie and Wulfric. Ice Beam is an excellent move, and helps against Blastoise’s weakness to Grass. Dark Pulse is another solid coverage move.

Earthquake is a very powerful STAB move. Ice Shard and Ice Fang are nice STAB moves, if a little tricky to get. Stone Edge is a nice coverage move, if a bit inaccurate. Strength is a required HM, but Return can be used if you don’t want a permanent move.


Drapion @ Poison Barb / Black Glasses
Ability: Sniper
- Night Slash (Level 38) / Crunch (Level 49)
- Cross Poison (Level 57) / Poison Jab (TM purchased from the Shalour City PokeMart)

Night Slash and Cross Poison are both STAB moves that work well with Sniper. If you’d prefer more consistent power, go with Crunch and Poison Jab. Ice Fang covers Drapion’s sole weakness to Ground, and X-Scissor is a pretty good coverage move.

Ability: Cute Charm

Moonblast should be used on every special Fairy type, and Sylveon is no exception. Shadow Ball is coverage. Quick Attack is for a bit of priority, and Swift is the only other “good” special attack Sylveon gets.

No STAB on Slurpuff, Shadow Ball is only nutruel against poison types, Sylveon isn't always female and you shouldn't use a pokemon just because it looks cool.
I already know all of this but thanks?? And i said this team was entirely for my preference that I again changed and many people use Pokémon they think look cool (lucario and greninja for example) or cute (many). Is ghost really neutral against poison? I always see that it’s super affective against it.

This team doesn't break any rules. If you dislike this team, just down-vote it.
Also Lucario is very strong in this game, but Greninja is weaker than Delphox. It is a significant possibility that people use Greninja just because it looks cool (or because water starters are strong in older games and they didn't expect Greninja to be different).
Lucario is honestly why I went for absol instead. The lucario and sylveon in my first ever play through made the rest of the game way to easy. The rest of my Pokémon were the same ngl (delphox, talonflame, Pikachu, sylveon, lucario, and lapras).

Scald is a great water type move with the bonus to burn, Ice Beam is the best ice type move in the game and can freeze the opponent, Dark Pulse for coverage and can flinch the opponent and rapid spin to clear out hazards such as stealth rock against Wikstrom.

If you want a non electric type move, you can buy rain dance as well.

Moon blast is the best fairy move, psyshock for poison type weaknesses, shadow ball for coverage and charm to both evolve Eevee into Sylveon and to increase stats.

Hawlucha: Fighting/Flying
Ability: Unburden
Item: Black Band

The early game mvp of this team, Hawlucha hits hard and with a great movepool and speed, it puts a dent into a lot of different Pokemon. Fly to get around and to avoid attacks, flying press as it's both a fighting type and flying type move, x-scissor for psychic types and poison jab for fairy types.

This was my first time ever using Garchomp and man it didn't disappoint. The ace of this team with Sylveon, Garchomp can pretty much knock out anything with it's sky high speed and attack with decent defense to aid. Throw on Rocky helmet to hurt Pokemon that attack it physically and you have yourself an absolute monster. I hate battling Cynthia's in diamond, pearl and platinum so finally getting to use one felt amazing. You can use either dragon claw or draco meteor but I prefer dragon claw because it has more pp and it doesn't have any side effects. Earthquake can sweep any fire or electric types that you use it against as long as they don't have levitate. You get crunch right after you evolve Garchomp which is perfect timing for the 6th gym. And finally, Poison Jab is there for the fairy weakness and to allow you to 1 shot Diantha's Mega Gardevoir like it's nothing.

While I know I have repeating moves on this team, they work out well to the point that it helps if you do have repeating moves in order to combat multiple types.

In XY, Bidoof only learns Cut and Rock Smash, while Bibarel learns Cut, Surf, Waterfall and Strength.

Also, why Surf and T-bolt for Snorlax?

This thing is really a beast with a very versatile movepool. First option is definitely a slot for HM which Greninja can use effectively in battles, second option is for dark stab. Ice Beam is for coverage, and is extremely useful for... Dragons. Extrasonsory and Acrobatics are Fighting coverage. Water Shuriken breaks through sturdy (to hit some annoying gravelers).

He can pass through Viola with no difficulty. He is capable of sweeping Grant, Olympia, Malva and Drasna. Due to high speed he is all time fan favorite.

Calm Mind to boost your stats, it is replaceable by the rest of coverage options. Catching a Ralts is relatively easier than getting a Pixilate Sylveon, though you may encounter a headache while you search for Ralts. Worth the effort.

Lucario is the real hero here, thanks to Korrina who has the big heart to give you her Lucario with Lucarionite and Mega Ring. Aura Sphere and Close Combat hits like hell with Adaptability Stab. The rest are for coverage.

It is obtained as soon as you get an old rod. You can't miss Intimidate, right? Gyarados is a beast since Gen 4, and thank god, its already high Atk stat and access to Dragon Dance makes it a beast. Waterfall / Aqua Tail is stab. Ice Fang is for Grass Coverage, and most of the mons have 4x weakness to Ice. If you want more power, you can go with Stone Edge or Rock Slide. Earthquake is electric coverage.

Even though you need to return to Route 3 as soon as you receive an Old Rod, even though you need to grind it like hell to evolve, it is extremely useful for this team.

Staraptor

My favorite bird which gets access to Close Combat, and having 120 Atk. Talonflame surely is available earlier, but the type overlap.... Coming to the moveset details, Brave Bird is primary stab, Fly is for HM purpose, Return for neutral stab. Close Combat hits Rock, Ice and Steel types (except Aegislash). I recommend Intimidate Staraptor, since obtaining reckless is a little difficult (rare + low level).

Hits like a truck. Your flyer.

Viola would be extremely difficult if you only have your starter at that point. So I recommend to catch a Lilteo for that matter.

I have a great In-Game team for Pokemon X and Y

Greninja @ Black Glasses
Ability : Protean

  • Surf (HM)

The Combo of Froakie and Charmander as a Starter is Great for X and Y and better than other combos.
They are even my favorite Pokemons.
The ability Protean>>>Torrent as you get STAB for each move. The reasons for the movesets are First SURF is a Strong HM. Second Night Slash I prefer over Dark pulse despite being 10 power lower is because night slash has a high crit ratio. Third Ice Beam, I think it is quite apparent for grass types. U-turn is like a free switch doing a Good chunk of damage and switching as greninja attack style is OHKOing, the opponent so it cant take several hits before fainting.

Charizard/ Mega Charizard X @ Charizardite X
Ability : Blaze/Tough Claws

  • Flamethrower/Flare Blitz
  • Outrage
  • Fly (HM)
  • Thunder Punch

The reason for Choosing Mega Charizard X is because of its ability Tough Claws, which boosts my physical attacks
by this, you can choose a very powerful Flare Blitz, but it has recoil, giving boosted physical damage, and STAB also gives boosted recoil. Or you can go for a safer Flamethrower depends on you how you like to play. Outrage is a Physical STAB attack for Mega Charizard X . I know it causes confusion, but just switch to get rid of it. We all know Kalos Gym leaders or Elite 4 have less Pokemon than usual, so the battle would probably end before confusion occurs. Fly is an important HM and has good damage like surf. Thunder Punch, due to the team's lack of electric type, we need some electric moves.

Gardevoir @ Pixie Plate

This has been one of the most reliable Pokemon for me since Gen 3 due to the great stats and solid Psychic typing. Gen 6 added another Solid fairy type to it, making it more powerful than before. Psychic and Moonblast are obvious Strong STAB moves. ThunderBolt for Electric move coverage as done with Charizard. Calm Mind is a Strong stat-boosting and terrifying move for opponents; why not include that. If you want to use the legendary Xerneas if playing Pokemon X, gardevoir can be replaced by it and in the moveset, replace Calm MInd with its signature move Geomancy. Sadly don't think of a replacement for including Yveltal as no Pokemon in this team is similar to Yveltal.

Aegislash @ Leftovers
Ability : Stance Change

A must Try Pokemon due to its uniqueness and massive stats in each defined form of Shield/Blade. Its typing gives it a whopping three immunities. King's Shield and Sacred Sword are must use on an Aegislash. Iron Head and Shadow Claw(Has high Crit ratio) for STAB.

Garchomp @ Dragon Fang/ Soft Sand
Ability : Rough Skin

  • Dragon Claw
  • Earthquake
  • Poison Jab
  • Cut (HM)

A Pseudo is always better in a Team. I preferred Garchomp more than Goodra the Kalos Pseudo due to the secondary ground typing of Garchomp and not having a ground type, so Garchomp is the deal. It has far more superior Physical attack than special, so Dragon Claw And Earthquake are Strong STAB physical moves. Cut is for HM as due to less HM in this game, I don't need an extra Pokemon to waste the slot for HMs. Poison Jab for some free poisoning and doing poison damage.

Lucario/ Mega Lucario @ Lucarionite
Ability : Steadfast/Adaptability

  • Close Combat
  • Aura Sphere
  • Strength
  • Flash Cannon

The purpose of it to be added was its Mega form for its Massive Offensive stats and its one of the most powerful ability in-game Adaptability, which allows you to sweep through the game so early as you can get it after beating the 3rd gym itself, making it easier to progress into the game by getting a mega evolution so early. Aura Sphere as for Guaranteed hitting and Special coverage and also the STAB, it makes more sense to give it STAB moves to utilize its ability fully. Close Combat is a powerful Fighting move, and you must give it. Strength is for HM. Flash Cannon for STAB.
You can choose to mega evolve either Lucario or Charizard depending on the conditions and opponent's Pokemon. This is, for me the best in-game team.

If you assume that they are able to trade a Charizardite-X from an X game, then yes they can.
Yes, you can trade it if you want to keep Charizard Y. I think Charizard X is good as I can first change my type depending on the opponent by mega evolving that is helpful to get a dragon type and not to waste a move switching, and the tough claws ability is pretty great as I chose Charizard to be a physical attacker in this team along garchomp as there are special and  mixed attackers already and flamethrower is for STAB I find it an ideal move for a fire type pokemon

See, Swords dance not because I feel the attack is already very high, so no point in increasing it more. I have planned to use it most times as Mega Lucario, and you know to increase its attack even more, it has Adaptability, which gives is 2x STAB bonus instead of 1.5x, so swords dance don't make point and aura sphere is a guaranteed always hitting attack and things that can stop the Adaptability mega Lucario is accuracy if it hits it hits immense damage so if the accuracy is lowered go for aura sphere and second it is a special attack too to need a special fighting type coverage it.

This team is mostly based on Pokemon I like. I'm not certain that it's the very best, but I'll try.
Delphox  sprite from X & Y

-Psychic/Future Sight (Either one's great. Personally I would also use TM03 Psyshock on Delphox when it's available, but that's only at the end)

-Flamethrower (Or Fire Blast if you'd rather)
Delphox is a powerful Pokemon that can take down many foolhardy trainers if played right. Theoretically, It could, If leveled up enough, defeat Viola very quickly (her Surskit will receive neutral damage from fire-type attacks; and can use Bubble in battle). It can also blast through Korrina, Ramos, Wulfric, and Wilkstrom.

Dragalge is a timely arrival -- It can be fished up (pardon the pun) in Cyllage City. Although Weak to Ground, you can use whatever Water-type Move you have on Grant. Also, It helps to have Dragalge when you fight Valerie -- Fairy does neutral damage and you can just spam Sludge Bomb all you want. Surf is great against Malva, too.

So the last team I posted was old, bad and from when I was new to Pokémon database. I've recently done a playthrough of Pokémon Y and I am going to share the team I used then because dear gods, it was good. (Also, all team members were named after deities). Let's go.

This team was a godsend for me (literally) and was really fun. Use it if you want and feel free to make changes to suit your preferences.
