I'd go with UU. What it doesn't have that Infernape does is an incredible offensive typing along with incredibly hard hitting STAB attacks. Infernape isn't the best Pokemon in OU, it's only a decent bet and is certainly not going to be a candidate on every team. I look at Greninja as more of an offensive Spiker, which it is outclassed thanks to typing in by Froslass.
Protean is really only recognized for the free STAB, when moves like Shadow Sneak can be used to gain immunities or Spikes can be used to get a quick SDef boost in a sandstorm. It's most definitely one of the most powerful abilities in the game.
Not water shuriken because greninja is already fast and water shuriken gives priority in exchange of damage . Protean is awesome but the catch is you have to run all different move types. Try hydro pump, dark pulse, ice beam, and substitute (for protection from lucky  super effective hits).  Try giving him a life orb for extra power on his already powerful attacks.

With U-Turn and amazing speed you don't need a lot of type coverage. Focus Sash lets it take out several switch-ins especially as this thing has abyssal def and spdef. Night Slash is amazing, Acrobatics to kill Grass and x-tra dmg when Focus Sash is gone. Waterfall, STAB, flinching.

First of all, why not Surf? Scald is better plus burning for switching in grass types. Dark Pulse is too predictable but it's the best you have. Blizzard, instead of Ice Beam??? First, if Ice Beam hits and freezes: 10% chance. Blilzzard hitting and freezing? 21%. More damage, sure, really bad accuracy and it can fail you but if it hits it ruins grass. Extrasensory wrecks Fighting.

Greninja can be special or physical, and you want a nature that boosts its Speed stat so you can outspeed your opponents. You also want it to have its Hidden Ability (Protean), not Torrent. For Ash-Greninja (who has the Battle Bond ability instead), I wouldn't recommend using a physical set as that heavily relies on Protean.

In double battles, some good status moves to also consider would be Spikes, Toxic Spikes or Mat Block, although you're better off using Greninja purely as a sweeper and leaving status moves up to its allies.

Timid / Modest Nature
- Dark Pulse / Extrasensory (Same power, same accuracy but Coverage for Gengar who could learn Thunderbolt either Energy Ball or other ghost types could learn them as well)
- Surf / Hydro Pump / Scald (STAB but use Surf if you can)
- Ice Beam (Coverage, kill any grass types or dragon types or flying types, mostly for grass and dragons with thunder punch)
- Grass Knot (Kill another greninjas if they use it or even any water types who have greninjas weakness such like solar beam or else)

This Greninja is very strong but not strong on defense but very good Sp attacker.

Smack Down
Water Shuriken

Ice Punch is good for grass types and can take down a Garchomp with Ease. Shadow Sneak is for Fake out users, Kanghaskan users that use Power Up Punch as well. Smack down is good for Talonflame users, that love Brave Bird Gale wings, so not only does the Talonflame waste a Brave Bird, you also get 4x dmg on Talonflame for easy Instant Kill. And Water Shuriken for Priority and For Finishing someone that's faster and low hp.

Hey! I used this ash-greninja on showdown and it worked pretty well, especially against set-uppers!

My Ash-Greninja has:

Ability: Battle Bond (Obviously)

Item: Focus Sash/Leftovers

Nature: Jolly/Timid

EVs: 276 Speed, 123 Sp Atk, 234 Attack, 146 Defense, 69 Sp Defense

Moves: Scald, Ice Beam, Dark Pulse, and Grass Knot/Aerial Ace

Scald: Scald is a sweep move. Use it on Ground, Fire, and Rock types and they won't stand a chance. Plus, it can burn the opponents if they don't get one hit KO'd.

Ice Beam: For those darn Dragon types like Garchomp and Salamence who can learn Rock Smash and Noivern who can learn Focus Blast. Use it, and because Greninja's amazing speed, it will 96.98% be likely to go first

Dark Pulse: Dark Pulse is a must have. It can take out Haxorus, a crazy strong Dragon type in one hit. It is, as you know, great for killing Psychic and Ghost types.

Grass Knot/Aerial Ace: Grass Knot is a great move to take out annoying Water, Electric, and Ground types. Aerial Ace is REALLY GOOD for taking out those stupid Fighting types, plus it's super fast.

Um.... EVs cannot exceed over 255. However, with 255 EVs, you waste 3 EVs. So, when maxing out EVs in one stat, 252 EVs is preferred.

So many of you will be wondering:Water Shuriken? HA NUB!! Well I did some math and each time Water shuriken hits it will have 60Base Power and always hits 3 times, so 60x3=180 and then we have STAB, so 180+STAB=270 Base Power move, and also priority so.... HEYAHHH!!! Even things that resist it will still get hit with a 135Base Power move, which is stronger then a Hydro Pump and Water shuriken has Priority, hits everything pretty hard.

Some threats are:
Tapu Koko-Type advantage
Tapu Fini-To Bulky
Tapu Lele-May oneshot with Moonblast if you don’t OHKO First
Mega Lopunny-Outspeeds-Potential OHKO With Hi Jump Kick

Celesteela-WWAAYY To bulky-Hits back with heavy slam or Seed Bomb-Seed Bomb not common at all though

Here comes another troll set! I've always wondered why Greninja is better in its Special attack than is Physical attack, because its a ninja, but thats not the point. Here is a Physical Ash-Greninja!

Greninja @ Life Orb/Expert Belt
Trait: Battle Bond
EV's: 252 Attack 252 Speed
Nature: Jolly
- U-turn
- Low Kick
- Waterfall
- Ice punch

A personal favourite of mine. Life orb if you don't mind losing HP or Expert Belt if you manage to hit something super effectively. Low kick is for unsuspecting dark or Ice type. Also, if a steel types that is heavy comes along, low kick is so strong on them. Ice Punch is for Dragon and Grass types and U-Turn if you need to get outta here. Waterfall can flinch and is STAB. Jolly is so it can outspeed more things.

And while I'm at it, why not a spikes troll set (also Physical).

Greninja @ Focus Sash
Trait: Protean
EV's 252 Attack 252 Speed
IV's: 0 HP 0 Defence 0 Special Defence
Nature: Jolly
- Spikes
- Acrobatics
- Waterfall
- Night Slash

Works a bit like ETN's Acrobatics Sceptile that she let me use on my Pokemon Database theme team. Spikes can turn you into Ground type and sets up hazards. When the opponent gets you to 1 HP and you lose your focus sash, use acrobatics. It is now powered up and STAB. Waterfall is STAB and may flinch. Night Slash is STAB and has a high critical hit ratio. Jolly is the same as the other set.

Explanation: Ok, so I know what you're thinking. "What on earth? Work Up? Water Shuriken? FOCUS SASH?!" And I get it. This set is weird. But, hear me out. Number One: Nobody Expects the Spanish Inqui- Sorry. Work Up. And the Focus sash with Gren's high base speed lets you boost up and take out a 'mon, which then allows you to go all Naruto and SWEEP. Gunk shot hits just as hard as unboosted special coverage once you have work up and is Gren's best fairyfricker option due to the generally high Sp. Def of most fairies. It's goofy, but it works. Trust me. And Dark pulse and Water Shuriken are stab/ priority.

Greninja is not a Pokemon you should mess with, mostly because of its amazing Speed and Attack stats. Greninja is just a Pokemon that I think deserves a lot of respect for its battling capabilities.

For this set all you have to do is get a KO to setup the Battle Bond. And that is when you start sweeping teams with the help of Life Orb as well. I use this set a lot and it works well. Greninja is basically the best Pokemon on my team with this set. OP Pokemon!

Waterfall and Night slash are both STAB, also great moves in my opinion, shadow sneak is for priority and Aerial Ace is for coverage against fighting types. The Focus Sash is for living a Fighting type that may OHKO Greninja.
