Meta-PokéBase Q&A

Wow, this thread really blew up!
Hi, I'm Scraf. And this is my story:

Seven-year old me really wanted a Game Boy Advance for my birthday. I opened up a grey, glossy box to find a Spongebob GBA and three games: Arcade Games, Galaga Remastered, and Pokemon Fire Red. I clocked in about 800,000 points in Galaga before I put it down for the next eight years, and Arcade Games was a bit too hard for seven-year old me. Fire Red, however, I didn't quite put down just yet.

I clocked 999:59 into that thing faster than you'd expect. I chose Squirtle as my starter and set off out of Pallet Town. My sister got Leaf Green the year later, and I traded my Lvl. 100 Blastoise over to her game. She restarted it. Nooooooo :D

That over the following three years, I purchased Pokemon Games in quick succession. Pokemon Ruby, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver and White all were welcomed into my collection. This was about when I was in Grade 6.

...then I just stopped playing. Pokemon became unpopular. Anyone who played it was the dunce.

Three years later, around the release of X & Y, I stumbled upon this site. The news section helped me out a ton, deciphering all of these new Pokemon, the Fairy Type, why Aegislash looks so great, etc. Then, I discovered Pokebase.

It was like a cool breeze with the smell of freshly fallen rain blew out of my laptop screen that day. There were so many resources and such an amazing community, I quickly identified Pokebase as a safe haven of the Internet.

I quickly proceeded to pump out answers and questions. People generally liked my answers, and I kept getting more points. And then, around January of 2015, I left.

Well, what can I say? I've lost interest in Pokemon for the time being and OR is my last game for the time being. As I listen to YEHEHE, this is my sendoff.

Thanks for being awesome.

That's my story. What's yours?

Post stories about how Pokebase changed your view on Pokemon, rekindled your love for it, or just helped you out overall!
Pokebase, or Pokemon Database, is a great site. A lot of good has happened here so lets tell our experiences of how this site helped us!

Wow... where do i start, First off, i would like to say this story goes back to 2005, when i was 3, which was when Pokemon first met my life, I was on a trip with my mom, and my dad was in the hospital with pancreatitis, it was my distraction, i first played Fire Red then, and i met my all time favorite Pokemon, Charizard. I was able to keep my mind off of my dad, through Charizard and Nidoking. I was addicted. I have played pokemon ever since. Later I started to play gen 4, and i started competitive, at 5 years old, what a precocious little genius i was. I was known as the Master of Fire among my group. I started speedrunning, using action replays, and all that stuff at 6. I played until the end of Gen 4. Then 4 years after HGSS, i met my current best friend. He got me on DB, and i was hooked again. I have done all the things i used to when i was young. DB has taken me in and accepted me for who i am, through a hard time in my life. I am 13 years old and an overweight nerd, and online no one cares. IRL, i am the most hated person i know, i barely am able to stick with the nerd group. But DB has saved me from the hate of the world, and potentially from hurting others and myself, DB is a place where people accept anyone who comes. I know my account is 6 months old, but i have been here for 2 years now. On the internet, the pokemon community, and especially DB, everyone is accepting of everyone else, so i thank my friends, DB, Pokemaster, in particular for creating and maintaining such an excellent site, I hope this site stays around forever. I have over 100000 hours logged between all of my pokemon games, and that is not counting old save files, I would not be me if not for pokemon.

TL;DR: I love pokemon, and DB in particular, and it has saved my life from my own self anger.

I guess I can answer this... Let us start way back, in 2007. I was a little 6 year old who was the best at math out of everyone he knew. I had a neighbor who had 4 kids, I was friends with all of them. We would get along, play games outside and inside alike. I got a Blue Cherry DS Lite for Christmas. Later, on my 8th birthday (2009), my friends gave me a pack of Pokemon cards, the first card I opened up to was a Carnivine (This one). After that I collected and battled cards ever since. Funnily enough, I remember in 2011 that PETA did something saying Pokemon promotes animal violence, when the TCG actually made me like, appreciate, and care for nature, and helped me understand equality a lot better when I was a kid. They also showed me how the mechanics of the games worked, and I then wanted the games as well. For my sister's birthday (2010), she got Heart Gold, for my 9th Birthday, I got a used Diamond (it had some Japanese Pokemon and a really good Heatran at the time), and my neighbor got me Soul Silver (I also got a used Pokemon Ranger that still had a Manaphy egg :P). I then moved, and didn't invest into Pokemon much for a while (I still bought cards, just non-frequently; and I still battled with them, too). I never got Black, White, Black 2, or White 2 when they came out, but I have White now. In 2012, I got a 3Ds, and in 2013, I got Pokemon X, which I lost in 2014 until I found it when a couch broke in 2017. I got Omega Ruby in 2015. I got into Smogon and competitive in 2015, but stopped and didn't pick up again until 2017. I got Moon and Ultra Moon in 2017. Not very interesting, huh?... I like Stakataka because he is a sad underdog who needs praise and love (Read more here). Then I found this site in 2018, I actually found it in 2017 when looking Up things about Pokemon Moon, just never bothered making an account. I liked the community, met lots of nice people, and felt like I belonged. At first, my friends were Will, Rahat (now Helix716), and Eppy. I would spend way too much time on this site and in chat. Now I only spend a bit of my time here, don't mind if I get asked questions, and try to stay casual and apologize whenever I do something mean (happens to all of us on occasion). My staple causality is having some of my sentences end with emoticons, like the one at the end of this paragraph, as well as having all my answers (to pokebase questions; after a certain point in time) end with Hope I Helped!. :P

Anyways, hope reading didn't waste you time.

by
Nah you didnt waste my time cuz i have no life
Manaphy Egg!? Not Phione Egg?
I never owned a manaphy. Phione Egg-Manaphy egg... Manaphy+ditto=Phione egg? The egg from ranger is Manaphy?
Yes, you can get a Manaphy egg from all of the ranger games and Battle Revolution. :P
Buys used pokemon ranger. Gets manaphy egg.
if it is used, since the Manaphy egg transfer only works once, if the owner of said game already got manaphy, you can't get it :/

Tha ranger games were a bit fun though.

When I was only 9, I went to my Uncle's to swim when I was in Florida. I played Pokemon blue version, since then I was hooked.

When I was 15 i got my first copy of Pokemon XY. I loved my Fenniken, I evolved her into Braixen at Rout 2 and into Delphox at rout 8. I found an exploit using O-Powers and I could generate enough money to have 999 full restores, 999 revives, and 999 quick balls.

I had my first Shiny charm in November 2017(recently) and I joined this server when looking for move sets for Alolan Ninetales. I became a member to post my idea for a Snow Cloak Alolan Ninetales

I started playing Pokémon when I got Pokémon Platinum in August 2010. I loved it. To this day it is still my favorite Pokémon game! I didn't like Chimchar because he was scratching his butt, and at that time I didn't like penguins, so I chose Turtwig. I really wished Turtwig could look cooler, and when it evolved into Torterra, I thought it was the awesomest Pokémon ever, and it became my favorite Pokémon. After a year my Platinum just wouldn't work. I started losing interest in Pokémon. But in August 2012, my dad fixed my Pokémon Platinum! I also got Pokémon Rangers, Mystery Dungeon(Blue, Darkness and Time), White, White 2 and Conquest. I joined this site in February 2013, but I'm still a noob... :P

Got into Pokemon after I had an amazing tennis match when I was like 8 lol. Anyways, I got to get a videogame. The sparkly Emerald game package caught my eye, I bought it, and clocked that 999:59 way faster than I ever expected. (This got me into Nintendo all around too, though Pokemon 4ever!) Anyways, I kept playing and bought every Pokemon game.

I forget why I joined the DB in the first place, but it was awesome back then. Still is, of course, but been through a whole lot of changes in just 3 years. I was here for a couple years, made 1 pretty big contribution (Name Rater thread, which is closed now but is currently the 2nd most voted question in the meta, lol) then I got grounded bad (no internet T.T) and lost interest in the site. Just got my punishment broken, and I'm back. I just found out I still suck at competitive. So many things have changed from when I was here, though, that it may as well be a new site and community.

In real life, I started as an anti-social geek/nerd/athlete (the last one was so odd, I was/am better at every sport than most of the top athletes). I'm now starting sophomore year at high school (no way I'm telling where), and have a couple friends. Still single, 4ever alone, all that crap. Pokemon really brought me together with one of my best friends (known him all my life. literally. we were born in the same friggin hospital around the same time). I still remember the Facebook incident early on, lol. Met some great people on here, but never really had a chance to get to know them.
___

I was here.

I left.

Now I'm back, mwahahahahahaha... (evil laughter)

Dream on, peeps, and never stop loving Pokemon! :D

I'm a-derpin.

My main point of focus on this site for now is going to be nitpicking the pages and bug-checking as an outlet for my OCD.

My pokemon adventure started when i was in year four (not grades im british lol) or year five idk. Pokemon go juet came out AND THERE WAS HYPE EVERYWHERE! people put doen there matchattack cards and bought pokemon cards. I asked for some weak cards (even if i didnt say weak ones i would probs get weak ones anyway lol) and my first cards: nidoran male, colourless energy and esperr. My colection kept growing as some of my class gave me their weak ones and my friends (bradley and dawid which ISNT a typo he is polish lol) got some slightly better cards than me. I was jealous. Then i lost my 4 cards in the PE changing room (come to think of it, why did i put them their anyway?) And left them there and never found them and hated pokemon for another 2 or 3 months. The hype soon died down as pokemon cards were banned but the hype didnt die. There was a black market for pokemon cards and i was part of it (this was before i got my cards stolen). About 3 months later i was introduced to the xy and z anime. I recorded them and when i got my first tablet i installed that pokemon app where you watch pokemon. I became big friends with bradley in spring of year five and we did fake pokemon battles (as in fake because pokemon arent real duh) on the playground at playtime and lunchtime. We had no clue that bulbapeadia or pokemon db existed so we learnt pokemon and their moves from the anime.
About that same time i was introduced to roblox by my friends and found a game called project pokemon. I played and got my first ever pokemon froakie. Then i forgot so save and had to choose froakie again lol. Then i found pokemon brick bronze and bulbapeadia and used and played them (i was bad at breeding and tried to breed a kabuto with a sewaddle lol. I played and studied pokemon much much more and became an expert at pokemon. As i moved to year six pokemon WAS NO MORE!!!!!!!! at my school. Me, bradley and byron (one of my new friends) still liked it and got bullied by logan (one of the popular kids aka vincent and any of his friends) and they were ALWAYS defended because they're popular. But that didnt stop my love for pokemon. I bought my first ever pack of pokemon cards and i got: mewtwo, kakuna, weedle, brocks grit, venusaur sprit link, rattata, rattata, potion and hyper potion. I have at the time of writing over 350 pokdmon cards. Oh yeah byron (who wasnt my friend at the time) stole all meh cards but i got em back). Nothing realy happened for a long long time until i tound this website. I didnt sign up until febuary 16, 2018 because i then got my own e-mail and started asked and answering. Im pretty sure im the most active person on the site now lol. My account has grown a lot since signing up and will carry on to grow. And thats the end of my pokemon story, but whats to come is unknown until we experience it. Thanks for reading, sorry for making it too long and sorry for necroposting.

Im he most active user in thuis site! How dare you! I read all the questions but I never know an answer an them :P. But I am the activest on chat.
Ye u most active on chat i most active on the site itself because j read all the questions too and im on about 3 times a day
How am i a newbie? I have ore points than you on meta
@ SeeYaLater
I remember back when I used to check the Recent Activity page every so often and read every question too back when I was also new.

I don't think neither of you have the right to call each other newbies, you both registered at the same month, this year.
I was just kdding xD but I thought Leafy was registered month later then me.
I’m 100% positive without a doubt I am the most active user pokebase has ever had (maybe exaggeration but I pretty much have no life and spend all my free time on here.)
Gekky, same. Evil, I was more active than you when I joined, but I decided to settle so I can do other things :/

Leafy Blade, if you even want TCG tips, I am the most active TCG expert :P
Nah, im just a meer collecter but thanks anyway
@EvilTwinNeedle™️ Hmmm...... Maybe 50% sure? I spend minimum 5 hours in chat a day. I read all the answers.
PS I have no life too (outside of school).
Im 100% sure without no doubt that I am the most active user That is under 12 years old.
Don't think you're the most active person. When I signed up, everyday I spent 4-5 hours here. But the chat room was always dead.
Me and Helix used to compete for answering questions at times. I gave up because keeping up was too much for me.
And I am glad I did. I don't waste time anymore (or, only when I sneak some comments, answers, etc. in school).
Not that I dislike this site, but I probably shouldn't put all of my time into it :P
Lets stop arguing now

I watched the Pokémon anime as a kid, but it was only the Sinnoh region I watched at the time. Being the completionist that I was (and still am today), I went online and watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE from EVERY SINGLE SERIES of said anime to up until the beginning of X-and-Y (and, by then, I watched them as they aired). Afterwards, I had a question about the Arceus plates (because I deleted them from my inventory in my Pokémon X game), hence my start on this site. I've enjoyed Pokémon for a long time, but I didn't play the games up until recently 2 years ago. I enjoy Pokémon so much that I thought to myself "Hey, why not fuse some of them?". Hence my start to my previous username, "J. Fuseon (Amalgeon)", as well as the continuation from my current username.

And that's all I have to say about that. :P

It all started at 2nd grade. Pokemon was pretty popular among us. It was like the currency of the class. Whoever wants like, their worksheet answered for them, well, you gotta pay your cards. Our Christmas wish list would be pokemon cards, and in our class there is what you call Binacles. Binacle's ability in pokemon is pickpocket, just so in real life. The "Binacles" like to steal other people's pokemon cards, but the victims were all riot. Soon enough,it became like the real game. The Binacles were called Team Rocket Grunts and they would challenge you to a battle and we had to win against them, in order to get some of our stolen cards back fro them. I ever got a Mega Charizard Y from a friend and a Mega Manetric and Mega Lucario, sooo, I used to be paranoid. The Binacles would probably try to steal them, until the real game-life began. At every recess time we would PLAY...PLAY AND PLAY. But I have all evolutions of Manetric, Lucario and Charizard, so I was totally undefeatable. The trend is still on, until now.

When one day my friend who knows a lot about the pokemon games asked me pokemon game question. I was totally clueless, so in the end I asked him how to get those games without paying, and he said there was a website with all these ROMs, so I started playing. I searched the Internet and came across pokemon db. At first I didn't really log in, cos I was pretty lazy. For 4 years until now, things have changed. The school didn't allow us to play pokemon cards again, and what happened next was a gigantic revolution at school. Kids were complaining, some troublemaker kids leading riots to the principal's office, and many more. Soon, we began playing pokemon in secret, like at recess time, we played secretly at the toilet-oh the suffering.

Then I came across this wonderful website-Pokemon Showdown! It was amazing, and after playing for about 2 months, I grew this sense prediction what my opponent will use. I liked to watch this youtuber named SideArms4Reason, cos he was pretty good at playing PS. Soon enough, I read the entire Pokedex, read half of Smogon's strategies of pokemon while at the same time doing my quizzes and exams. I then went back to pokemon db one day, then decided, that I should use my knowledge to a good use, so entered pokemon db with the username GreaninjaF4n.

Today, I know I'm still 6th grade and all, but I think I can do multiple things at once, including praying to God for this pandemic to end. So see ya there from Indonesia! :)

Updating this since today marks 1 year of me being here.

When I was little, my grandma brought me around 5 Pokemon cards from work (yeah, back when those were still popular). I didn't use them for battling or trading, instead just looking at them. They were really cool to little me. Unfortunately, Flabebe and Eelektrik are lost somewhere in my house, and I can't even remember where the rest of them are, or what they were. After that I thought "hey, Pokemon seems interesting" I got the Night Striker theme deck, my first deck, a few months later. A little after the deck, Pokemon cards started becoming popular in my school. It was like drug dealing; everyone wanted to trade with you. I blundered into a trap and traded my Gengar for a Persian one time because I'm not that bright. I also started to watch the Pokemon anime (I know lots of people hate it but it was a big part of my childhood, ok?) while purchasing new decks with things like EX and Mega EX cards. Later, new games were released and Pokemon was largely forgotten. I never stopped being interested in the series, though. Ok fast forward to mid 2019 or something. There's a Pokemon Direct which introduces Pokemon Sword and Shield. Conveniently, I was looking at YouTube at the time and it popped up in my recommended. And then, it hit me. I had an epiphany. When I watched the trailer, I found out that most computer games are boring! I also found out that I really wanted Pokemon Sword. I got it along with a Nintendo Switch in late 2019, choose Grookey, and played through and beat the game.

I wanted to get a look at competitive sets for my Pokemon, just to see if the set of Hyper Beam - Giga Impact - Frenzy Plant - Grass Pledge was good and it was not. The moveset questions were interesting to me. I remember signing up after looking at the Snorlax moveset thread. I signed up with the username 'snom', immediately went ahead and posted on the Wishiwashi moveset thread (it got hidden because there were no EVs on the set). Yeah, I was a *** idiot. I learned about EVs after that. A little later, I started gaining traction, I met lots of incredible people, had crazy and weird fun in the chat room, played Pokemon Showdown for the first time, took trolls a little too seriously, saw friends leave, turned into a convertible, and, 11 months later, gained Expert.

insert a cool way to end the post here

Let's finally answer this.

When I first got into Pokemon
I first got into Pokémon when I was in 5th grade. It was of course TCG, then they banned it in my school. Anyway, my first card I ever got was a Dedenne. That card was so cute and I actually still have it today. I got it as a gift and I carried that card with me everywhere. So, I started collecting the cards, but it never really amounted to much. I kind of lost interest for awhile until Christmas that year. My parents bought me Omega Ruby. That was the best game ever. I was such a noob in it though lol. I encountered my crush on that game, Courtney. After that, I kept with it for a year or so, doing Multi-Battles, but I eventually lost interest for other games. Even when Sun and Moon came out, I was eh. I completed the story, then shoved it away, never to be played again. Then Ultra Sun and Moon came out. I thought the storyline was good, and I found renewed interest with the Battle Tree.
On
How I found the DB
My brother actually introduced me to the DB. I was tired of losing at the Battle Tree and decided to ask my brother for advice. He referred me here and this is where I learned how to EV train and develop movesets with a little help from Smogon. Good times. I spent a couple years just training up my Pokémon, referring to Moveset pages here, and even scrolling through old questions, but I really never had a need to create an account. That all changed with school being shut down. I decided to create an account here and it was one of the best decisions of my life. Anyway, I just continuously answered questions and gaining points until where I am today. An Expert. Now, I really only went to the Chat Room only like a month after I created my account. I met some of my closest friends here including, but not limited to, X, Y, Glaz, TY, and Swastik among others.

I just want to say this is one of, if not the best internet community out there. You all are so nice and supportive, and I can't imagine life without you guys. Wow, that was longer than I expected.

That’s about it :/

When I first started playing Pokemon

Finally answering this. I started playing Pokemon at age 8, and loved it. I started watching the anime from 6 or something. My first game was Sword and Shield, my first games on the switch. It was awesome. Although I could only play 30 min on Saturdays and Sundays, I still loved it. I got swsh just a tiny bit after I got the switch, 2019 November. I always wanted to play, but I couldn't. When the Isle of Armor came out, I went crazy. I said I hated it at first because I couldn't get there. I certainly don't hate it anymore. I was crazy, and on Fridays and Thursdays, I could barely contain it because I wanted to play sooo much. Eventually, I finished it. Boy, it was awesome. Next came the Crown Tundra. Oh my god. I loved even more. I actually sneak played it early on mornings, it was as awesome as hell. When I discovered what you can get in Dynamax Adventures, I totally blasted Dreepys at Mach 142. Up to now, D-max Adventures are still more fun than normal Raids, because of the legends and Hoenn starters. Oh did I mention I was a Hoenn fanboy? It's my favorite region, even though I've never played it.

Discovery of this awesome site

In case you were wondering how I found out about this site, it was my friend. He used this site for Type counters, base stat totals, etc. It was so easy to read, and was not stacked up and didn't have tiny words. It was a great source of info, even more than how much I thought I needed. I discovered base stat totals, yes, don't call me a noob, and wanted to be a user. My first account was a dupe, made in April or May, I forgot. I had huge trouble confirming email, but eventually made another account, named Dragapult. I loved this site. It was awesome, had so much fun in the chat. And yes, I was a bit crazy about getting points. When the name change came, I changed my name into ~Dragapulse~. In Spring, I'll change my name back. I had a rival, Blaziken787. Then I had another friend/rival. He was Primal Shadow. I also started making goals, like users I want to beat. While trying to beat Glazio Kawaii/Gladion Aether, I made another friend/rival. He was ProfDelldell. I have them currently beat, and people say I'm bad at getting points. I earned a reputation, became friends with more users, and had fun. This site also helped introduce me to competitive. I first didn't even know you could battle on Pokemon Showdown, but once I started battling, I loved it as well. The reason I battle anyways is because of my friend SSuperiority. I wanted to battle him, but I didn't have a team. So I made one, obviously. The first format I played was Gen 7 Doubles OU, and it was also my favorite. In this site, I have found so much information. I think this site is better organized than any other, even if it doesn't have as much info as other sites. I began answering questions more often, getting points. Then one day, I got 600. The day I'm posting this, I have 634 points. 11/19/2020.

My closest and best friends here
When I first joined, I didn't think many people would become friends with me. Boy, I was wrong,. This site has many nice users, my best friends here are Blaziken787, SSuperiority, and ■Primal●Shadow■. I am rivals with Blaziken and Shadow, as well as friends. I talk to SSuperiority a lot on Discord, like an hour a day lol. How did I become friends with them? Well, I simply asked Blaziken787 to be my rival. Then we became friends. Primal Shadow was a nice user I found on the chat, and new at the time. I also decided to be his friend, and he became mine, too. SSuperiority, he was a friend I became with in the chat room, when I was very new, on my first day. This is it for now, but I'll keep editing!

This site is an awesome source of information, I love it. Thanks for reading my story, bye for now! :)

Hm, let's see....I stalked this site for about 6 months before I officially made an account. I always loved watching the Pokemon anime as a kid, and I wanted to get the games. My first ever game was Ultra Moon (i know, I'm a baby) and i enjoyed it. I used this site for sets for my in-game team. That's when I discovered the whole community and i thought it was wonderful, so i decided to make an account here. I'm pretty active, though i usually just talk to people on their walls and in the chat room instead of answering questions. I'm glad to have made an account here because I've learned so much about Pokemon as a whole, and even though I still don't understand too much, i try my best to learn. I've also made some amazing friends on this who are very supportive and just all-around awesome. I don't really have many goals for this site other than to not die, but eh that's about it

Anyways, thanks for coming to my Ted-Talk :P

Pokémon, a series of embarking a journey on an unfamiliar world. No biggie right? Nothing so special at first, just like any other JRPG you usually would see.

But it was a great impact on my life. A bigbang, really.

It all started when I was 6, where I dreamt to become a Pokémon Trainer when I am older. Silly, foolish child I am, I know, but that's how it is. I was so enthusiastic about being a Pokémon trainer that I told everyone about it. They would just laugh and brush it off, but those reactions didn't made me stop. I kept dreaming to become one.

I gradually start to forget about that dream though. I lost interest in it. Slowly, I started to forget what Pokémon is. I brushed it away from my life and walked away like nothing happened.

I never knew nor I am interested about the mainline games at all at that time, but internet told me. At 10, my cousin introduced me to XY, and I slowly start to take an interest on Pokémon again. I was not really interested in playing it at first, though, so I just helped him with Amie. In the same year, my cousin once more introduced me to Black 2/White 2 through an EMU and convinced me to play. I chose to play Black 2, with the name RAZ in my save file, and using Nate as my avatar.

It was mesmerizing. It was beautiful. B2W2 easily became my first and also my favorite mainline game, until now.

I remember evolving my Riolu only to accidentally turn the computer's power off...that was pretty hurtful :']

I can't play it very often though, as the computer belongs to my cousin and I can't visit him all the time. When I visited him once more and asked If I could play again, the data got corrupted, he said. So I stopped playing for a while.

The next few months, my cousin came with a soft copy of Black 2 for me, and oh golly, I jumped around like a freshly caught Lillipup. I quickly played it out again. Restarted the game under the name Tenma, still using Nate as the avatar. Time passes, and my cousin came in with more and more soft copies for me; Platinum, HeartGold, Pearl, Diamond. I regained interest in Pokémon once more.

It was amazing. Pokémon has became my comfort game for a while now. It has helped to bring me comfort and happiness during tough times. It gave me a crapload of comfort characters, too. Wallace, Silver, N, The Unova Squad, and a lot more which will be too much if I were to fit them here!

Might sound a little pathetic knowing how I grew up with EMUs and ROMs instead of the official copies, but it is how it is. I was not allowed to buy any consoles, and just playing with an EMU already makes me happy :)

Around late August or September last year, I stumbled upon PokéBase. I used to not really care about it since I only use it to look at locations and stats etc. but I just got my new Gmail in late October/November, so I made an account out of fun. I didn't do nothing much around here at first, but I discovered the sections of this site such as the QnA Section, Meta, RMT etc.

In early February/March, I discovered Showdown! and knew very little about it. Careless about my ELO Rank, I don't mind getting beaten up by anybody. I stayed in PS! for fun only at first, but little by little, I got into competitive. I was SO clueless about competitive at that time, but I realized that this site is a golly big help. I read everything about stats and such and started to build movesets. I learned about EVs, Shinies, Breeding methods etc. Turns out, Pokémon is really much more than just going out on a jolly adventure catching mirage-infused animals.

And here I am, a member of Pokémon Database as of now. I've met really great members here, and got a MASSIVE Pokémon brainrot -- Thanks to this site and my cousin of course :)

Well, when I was in 1st grade, people started passing around Pokemon cards. That's how it began for me, and how it was for many years. I was given a Staryu the first day of 1st Grade, and I gained interest quickly. For Christmas that year, I asked for at least 20 packs of Pokemon cards, and the "Essential Handbook" at the time. I had thought that there were only the original 151 Pokemon at the time, but I soon found out that there were about 650! (This was in the era of Unova.) My first "official" Pokemon card was a holo Accelgor, and I still have it to this day.

So for the next couple years, I collected a lot of Pokemon cards. Memorized all of the Pokemon, (when I was young I memorized everything, Pokemon, flags, countries, birthdays, states, cities, etc.

My first experience with the Pokemon video game was with my friend, Leonard. He had a copy of Pokemon X, had just beaten the first gym, and had a Level 100 Mew. He let me play around with his game. He was in Lumiose City at the time. Then I did one of the worst things you could possibly do to somebody's save file, but it was understandable as I just a little curious kid. I, umm, released his Mew. He got really upset, like you would, and I said he could just put in the code for another Mew. Now, we all know this isn't true, but I sure thought it was.

Then on my birthday, I was given a 3DS by my parents. Before this, my only video game was with a Leapster Explorer, (if anyone else had one of those let me know lol,) It game with a demo of Mario Tennis Open, but I didn't care about that. So I looked up if there were any Pokemon games on the 3DS, and recently, Pokemon X and Y had come out. I was like, hey I should have known that.

When I was younger, my grandpa would give me $50 on my birthday to spend on anything I wanted. That year, I asked to go to the local GameStop, and see if they had a copy of the recent Pokemon games. Of course, they did, I picked Pokemon X, and I took it home.

I put 600 hours in that game while only being able to play for 5 hours a week. I loved the game so much. I chose Fennekin as my starter, named it Firefox, and went on my way. (I would always choose the Fire type starter because I thought to myself that it was super effective against the early game Grass & Bug Types.) During my playthrough, I found a Random Shiny Hawlucha. I thought the colors of it were amazing, but I didn't really understand what it was. I tried to weaken it, and ended up killing it. I really wish I would have caught it.

I beat Diantha in a month exactly. It was practically the first video game I'd ever played. After that, it took me 3 months to get a complete National Dex with all of the Mythicals. I remember having a Weepinbell in the GTS asking for a Mew for a whole MONTH... and then I actually got one lol. My last Pokemon was Clefable, because I could not find a freaking Moon Stone. I caught my first shiny Pokemon, a Pancham in the Friend Safari, at some point. Unfortunately, I traded it away for a different shiny.

A few months after my birthday, my younger brother had his. He asked for Pokemon Omega Ruby, which was hot off the presses. As we only had one DS he used mine. That Christmas, he got a 2DS. As the years followed, we would get each pair of Pokemon games, with him getting one, and me getting the other. I got Moon, he got Sun. I got UM, he got US. I purchased a slightly used copy of Black 2, and later a brand new copy of Diamond. Nintendo Switch Releases, and I get one for Christmas. My brother gets LGP, and I am not interested in the game at the time. I got Sword, he got Shield, although we both played both of them.

Now, to the point of the question. As I started trying to fill the National Dex of Pokemon X as a little kid, I start surfing the internet for Pokemon knowledge. One day, at my grandparents house, I stumbled upon this wonderful site. I loved looking at the pages of every Pokemon, and at the bottom of every page, were the questions. Those were my favorite. I loved reading people's questions about each specific Pokemon. Certain usernames got ingrained in my head, like Swampert, Speed Freak, Xblade, sumwun, and trachy, with the cat in the hot dog grav. Everytime I came to my grandparents house I would read through every Pokemon's questions. It took me years to figure out there was an actual forum, (I didn't understand these sorts of things.) I asked my grandpa many times to make an account, but for some reason it just didn't work. I don't know why, but it was definitely better for this site, this site did not need a tiny little Waluigi on his high horse trying to tell adults what they do and don't know about Pokemon. Eventually, early last year I made an account for myself. Back then I probably would have named myself DJ Master or something like that.

My favorite question on this site was the one about Wobbuffet's tail. I still have my original team, which was Delphox, Steelix, Lucario, Lapras, Talonflame, and Xerneas. To this day I still complete the Pokedex of every Pokemon game I get my hands on. I can credit this site for most of my information on the game of Pokemon.

Nowadays, I play Pokemon mostly on the side. I enjoy playing Blaze Black 2 from time to time, trying to complete the National Pokedex. I don't play video games much anymore, I try to focus on athletics, but I still love sharing Pokemon knowledge. Thanks for the fun this site has given me!

I was 7th & my schoolmates had brought some Pokemon cards to school, then I caught up interest in Pokemon (I did watch anime at that time though). I was actually an introvert, and got bullied constantly, so I couldn't get on with them (habit..). When I got the nerve to talk to them, they had been more... 'advanced'. They accepted to play with me.

One guy had made a game in a book and made us to play. He had allowed us to pick any one of the 21 starters (Gen 8 didn't exist yet). I had picked Blastoise. I gained interest in this very soon. But I didn't know anything about the game mechanics (either they didn't bother to teach me or they didn't know). So I was just spamming any attacking move and lost. I just had one common sense that Fire is weak to Water, Water is weak to Grass and Grass is weak to Fire.

Then I came across emulator games. One of my pals had advised me to play Fire Red (emulators btw, I didn't even know that emulators are kinda piracy). But I said that I needed Blaziken, so my first game became Ruby. As you can predict, I struggled a lot to finish the game. As for the first gym, Roxanne was easy cause I had caught shroomish.

Why did I catch Shroomish?
-> In Petalburg woods, a guy who was getting chased by a Magma Grunt said that he was researching about Shroomish. I thought that it might be great if I catch it. I figured they would be tasty :P. Right, boring stuff.

A funny incident was against Wattson. I thought that fire was Super Effective against Electric (as megneton was weak to fire). But Combusken couldn't finish all of them. It took me 10 attempts to defeat Wattson. I still laugh at my silliness.

I played Ruby about 10 times, but I couldn't defeat Steven. So, I started Fire Red. I went till Ghost E4 again, but the game got deleted cause my dad had changed the software of the device...

I was like... "My life...!!"

Still, I started Diamond. My choosing Chimchar proves my affection towards Fire type. Guess how many days I took to complete the game while playing one hour a week?
365 days. 365 horrid days. I started with Monferno, Staraptor and Luxray... I got trouble against Wake's Quag Pog, so I caught a lvl 5 Budew (was in my box till now) and grinded and grinded. I didn't have knowledge about Exp. Share. But I was lucky with that, cause by the time when Budew was lvl 26, it evolved into Roselia and I swept Wake. But grinding Budew took 3 weeks (playing one hr a week). I caught Floatzel cause Ash had it. I got Riolu, and my friend said to keep it, and much to my horror, it took me two months to grind it up to lvl 40s and evolve. Ugh... It took me another two months to complete E4.

So from the next time, I planned to search through google for a good team to avoid severe headaches. That was how I came across this site. Now I have more than eight "What is a good team for" posts with atleast one upvote (with one or two exceptions). It was my end of 9th grade when I finished Diamond (wow, 3 years over). This site really helped me out for my Emerald and Platinum Playthrough. I learned about natures, EVs, type match-up, etc. Then pandemic occurred, but it didn't dampen my enthusiasm about Pokemon, thanks to PokeDB.

Once I was playing Platinum, my mom happened to glance at my device while I was playing. She tried to interpret what I was doing, and departed, perplexed. She said nonchalantly, "What are you doing? This is just nonsense!". If I hadn't been introduced to DB, I would say the same thing, I wondered.

The only break to Pokemon was when I started to read Novels, during pandemic... If you are also a nerd like me, you can ask me in comments what novel I read.

It was nearly Autumn when I was gifted a laptop for my online (virtual) classes. I was even warned that it should only be used for classes. But, as you can already guess, I didn't obey. I logged in DB. My first post was the moveset question of Gardevoir. This was the moveset (I used for Platinum):

Gardevoir @ Twisted Spoon
Ability: Trace
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- CONFUSION

Reason for confusion was "for levelling up cause its growth rate is slow"

X commented on my answer that Twisted Spoon and Confusion aren't good in competitive, and I was like, Competitive?

I remember when ProfDellDell introduced me to Showdown. My first team was Gen 4 OU (I have a RMT post about it, you can check how awful my teambuilding was. Prof had said that this particular team was so good that I had to post. I was like... Wow! I cannot say that I became a pro in showdown, but I am having fun...

On Thanksgiving Day last year, some ppl including me had created 2 Pokemons called Regicovid and Regireca (Poison and Grass types respectively). That was fun...

HP: 50
Atk: 200
Def: 80
SpA: 50
SpD: 100
Spe: 100

(I guess the stats are li'l altered?)

Regireca @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Earthen Remedy
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 Hp
- Curing Vines
- Rock Slide
- U-Turn
- Aromatherapy

HP: 80
Atk: 50
Def: 100
SpA: 200
SpD: 100
Spe: 50

Regicovid @ Rocky Helmet
Nature: Modest
Ability: Social Distancing
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
- Heat Wave
- Infestation
- Sludge Wave
- Lockdown (Also known as Second Wave)

I forgot the info of Earthen Remedy, Curing Vines, Social Distancing & Lockdown; if you guys remember, pls comment :P.

There are many more memorable events that happened in Pokebase, would update if you ask so.

Hello, you have clicked on this thread and scrolled down enough to see that I have answered. Or maybe you went to All Activity and saw that this had been answered recently or something. I've decided to share my story of how I became a Pokémon fan and how I joined this site. Why? I dunno, it was a good way to pass time and people were doing it. Anyway, here it is... my story.

How did I become a Pokémon fan?

When I was younger, I didn't care about Pokémon. I didn't know much about it either. It was... some video games with a cartoon, I guess? There were creatures that... had some cool powers, maybe? I had watched the Pokémon anime a bit, but I still didn't really care about it. It was fine, but I wasn't a fan. Then, by accident, my mom put a book, a volume of the Black & White manga, on hold at a library instead of some of the anime. I decided to read it. But when I did, I suddenly fell in love with the series. I thought it looked pretty awesome. So I read some manga from the library and some magazines that had been sitting in the house for ages. I eventually took interest in the games. I'd been using emulators for a while, so what was the harm in trying out some of the games on the emulators? I don't remember what I played first, but I do remember what I beat first: Pokémon Ruby. If I had been older, I would've chosen Sapphire or Emerald, but I didn't know much about Pokémon at the time, and certainly not about version exclusives. I remember my starter, Mudkip. I had named him Swamper, which is very boring because it's just Swampert without a T on the end, but my nicknames were boring and I didn't care. I had basically beat the game with him. I never thought about training my other captured Pokémon evenly, so I had underleveled regular Pokémon and an overleveled starter. I had caught some higher-leveled Pokémon when I reached the Pokémon League, and I didn't really use them. I don't really remember them except for Aggro the Aggron and, I think, some Hariyama. I dunno why I only remember them, but whatever. I beat the Pokémon League and the credits rolled. I dunno what I did after I beat the game, probably boring stuff. I do, however, remember how I one-shot Groudon with Surf because I ran out of Ultra Balls or something. I fainted the mascot Legendary. What a moment. Beating Ruby is why I have a soft spot for Gen 3 and Mudkip, even though it's not my favorite Generation and Mudkip isn't my favorite starter. And the manga is why I had a soft spot for Gen 5 as well. Soon, I wasn't just reading the books, watching the anime, and playing the games. I was collecting Pokémon cards and writing Pokémon fanfiction. I kept researching moves, abilities, and Pokémon. And now I'm a Shiny hunter and I breed competitive-worthy Pokémon while having a full Pokedex in Moon. As I grew, so did my fandom and my knowledge of Pokémon. It's incredible how much I've changed from when I first started playing Pokémon. At least, it is to me.

How did I come to Pokémon Database?

I remember looking up many things about Pokémon. Moves, abilities, the Pokémon themselves, all that. And, at one point or another, I stumbled across this site. It was easy for me to understand the information, and I used it for Pokémon movesets in my fanfiction and where to find some Pokémon in-game. One day, I decided it'd be cool to make an account. Hey, why not? So I did. However, it was basically inactive for a few months, and my profile was empty for that time. I just lost interest in my account. Then, a few months later, I decided to fill in my profile. If I ever became active, I'd be needing it to not look like a black hole swallowed it up. So I filled it up with info and favorite Pokémon and all that good stuff. But while doing so, my interest in the site sparked again. I asked my first question at one point or another, which I enjoyed doing. One day, I came to the chat room and made my first friends. And got kicked for the first time, heh. I loved having someone to talk to, as I had been friendless for a long time, and I had also been feeling lonely. I quickly grew to love it. And sure, I was a bit of a bratty jerk, and my kicks and ban I deserved. But I had friends, and I realized just how important they were to me. I wanted to stay a lot. So I did. I came to the site daily and hung around in chat, sometimes answering questions. This site felt like home to me. There were ups and there were downs for me, but those happen to everybody. I've tried my best to act less like a bratty jerk. And here I am now, the Gladion-obsessed, XD-using, Silvally-collecting dork we all... we all... uh... oh, never mind, heh.

That's my story. You're probably bored by now, but of course I can't tell. But I want to say something before this ends. Thank you. Thank you to whoever read this through. Thank you to the people on this site who made me feel at home and happy and gave me friendship. Thank you to the people who moderate this site. I don't know where I'd be without Pokémon Database and my friends I made here who care about me. I know this probably sounds cheesy, but it's true. All I can say is... thank you.

Well, here's my story:

At first, I didn't care much about Pokemon. Then, one day, my Dad introduced me and my brother to the Pokemon anime: XY to be exact. Then, we got more into Pokemon. The first Pokemon game I played was Pokemon Ruby on an emulator.(don't judge me, we didn't have a Gameboy Advance at that time) I also played Pokemon Emerald. Well, on to how I discovered Pokebase.

How I Discovered Pokebase

I was searching something about Pokemon. It was probably some info about Pokemon. That's how I came across Pokebase. I would mainly look at the moveset questions. This inspired me to create Gen 3 movesets that I would write down.(except for the item and EVs)

How Pokebase Changed Me

Pokebase helped me discovered the following:

  1. Competitive Batting Exists: Which is how I discovered Pokemon Showdown
  2. Pokemon Natures and Stats DO matter: Natures are vital and bring out a Pokemon's potential. For example, you NEVER want to have a Modest nature Dugtrio. What are you going to do with it? Which is why stats are important too. Some Pokemon are meant to be sweepers, and some are for blocking attacks
  3. What STAB means
  4. Most of the time it's not a good idea to have two of the same type of attacking moves. Example: A moveset with Flamethrower and Fire Blast in the same set.
  5. EVs: EVs help bring out a Pokemon's power. Natures and Stats also help when determining EV spreads.

In Conclusion:

Pokebase helped me about Pokemon and why their stats matter. It would also help me find out where TMs located. That's why I joined Pokebase: to help me become a better Pokemon Player

“NEVER have two of the same type of attacking moves. Example: A moveset with Flamethrower and Fire Blast in the same set.“

Sorry to do this, but some Pokémon most commonly run sets with 2 STAB moves. Urshifu Rapid Strike uses Surging Strikes and Aqua Jet. Mamoswine runs Ice Shard and Icicle Crash. Some Assault Vest Pokemon will have 2 STABs. I guess it’s mostly priority, but still.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
I do agree that most Pokemon should have moves of 4 different types if they’re offensive, but just pointing that out.
Don't forget that Ruby was on MY tablet. Don't steal my story, Porygon-------.

I figured it's about time to post on this thread :P

So, I received my first Pokemon game when I was about six. It was summertime and I was complaining to my brothers about being bored. My oldest brother asked if I had ever played Pokemon, and naive me said "You mean like the card game?" Then he went and brought out his copy of Pokemon Ruby. I chose Mudkip. That's how it all started.

I loved that game to death. It took me forever to just finish playing through, (I think about 50 hours) but I have very fond memeories of doing so. Nowadays I have about 100 hours clocked on there, which isn't that much compared to other people but still a lot. (I never restarted it.) Somehow, I have the Regis in my boxes and have no recollection of catching them. I also found Pokemon Red Rescue Team while my oldest brother was in college, and played that a lot. I'm replaying it right now, actually. I didn't even realize there were other Pokemon games besides those two until the release of ORAS, and then I asked for Alpha Sapphire for Christmas one year. I played it for about 2 weeks, but then got distracted by new book series and such. I still played Pokemon, just sparingly.

Then one day I realized I had never finished Alpha Sapphire, and dedicated the next week or so to beating it. I fell in love with Pokemon again. My cousin actually just randomly gave me White 2 (which I didn't play for a while) at the next family gathering, and my oldest sister's boyfriend let me borrow LeafGreen and Moon, which I never finished because my little brother lost it... I'm asking for UM this Christmas :) I bought Shield myself after it's release and am happily enjoying the limited base-game features.

So where does Pokemon DB come in?

After discovering Competitve Pokemon through Pokemon Showdown!, I started to look up Pokemon stats and movesets. I also used this site for the What's a good in-game team for BW2 thread, as I was playing it at the time. I wanted to make competitive movesets for my favorite Pokemon, so I signed up for the site. (I just recently started making those movesets, because I was intimidated by my lack of competitive knowledge when I joined.) I think I had been here a day when I decided to go to the Chat Room to ask for a Pokemon with Pokerus (Still never got it, lol). I believe the people there were PrimalKyogre, Gladion Aether, ~Chocolatte~, Giga~Blade X, and PX. Through the chat room, I've met a ton of great people.

Since I've joined, I've learned a ton about Pokemon, and I have Pokemon DB to thank for that. The Pokemon Database community is really awesome and helpful. I love being able to contribute here, and it really makes my day. So thank you everyone!

Sorry this is so long, lol.

I loved Pokemon from a young age. I've been on this site for less than fifteen minutes but I figured this would be a good place to post my first answer.

Pokemon was the first video game I'd ever played, other than random games that I played at my cousin's house.

Anyway, my love for Pokemon grew over the years, and one day, in elementary school, we were allowed to bring our games into school. I, of course, played Pokemon.

However, while I was battling a trainer, our teacher approached and deemed that it was too violent, and my games were confiscated. Thankfully, they were returned eventually.
