Serperior @BigRoot

Leaf Blade (LV 32)
Leaf Storm (LV 62)
Giga Drein (LV 44)
Coil (LV 38) / Outrage (10 green Move Tutor)
Serperior – our starter – The question is: why did the developers make it so weak? If it had access to some interesting moves like Rock or Ground, it would be much better. Instead, we’re forced to run it as a pure Grass-type with a slight option for Dragon coverage. But because of its stats, it works best as more of a support Pokémon in battles, focusing on healing, Giga Drain, and boosts like Growth / Coil. A true prolonger of fights.
Darmanitan @ExpertBelt / @LifeOrb if you get

Fire Puch (LV22)
Flare Blitz (LV 33)
Superpower (LV 47)
Zen headbutt (move tutor 8 yellow)
Darmanitan – This guy is insanely strong. It’s unbelievable what he can do. Fire Punch is a very solid STAB, and Flare Blitz is basically an atomic bomb. Superpower is excellent coverage, especially against Normal, but also Dark, Rock, Ice, and Steel. Zen Headbutt covers Fighting-types. Overall he’s powerful, well-rounded, fast, and has extremely high physical attack. Fire moves and Zen Headbutt work perfectly with Sheer Force.
Lapras @MysticWater

Surf (HM 03)
Ice Bean (LV 32)
Body Slum (LV 18) / Hydro Pomp (LV 49)
Thunder (TM 25) -> Thunderbolt (TM 24)
( option Psychic TM29 )
Lapras – A key member of the team. Surf is a solid, strong STAB + useful HM. Ice Beam has three reasons: dragons, dragons, and dragons. Personally, I like running Hydro Pump as a second strong Water STAB, but you can go with Body Slam if you feel you need better coverage. Thunderbolt is amazing coverage against Flying- and Water-types. In my team, I have one slot free; if you want to run a 6th Pokémon, like an Electric-type, you can swap this move for Psychic, which gives Lapras excellent extra coverage.
Zoroark @BlackGlasses

Night Slash (LV 30)
Night Daze (LV 64)
Flamethrower (TM 24)
Dig ( TM 28) / U-Tern (move relearner)
Zoroark – I had some doubts about bringing him into the team, but he didn’t disappoint. Definitely worth giving him a try. This guy is amazing: great stats, fast, and gains experience quickly, so he will always be slightly higher level. He can solo the first and third Elite Four trainers with just one-shot moves. Highly recommended, fits in any team. Night Slash / Night Daze for STAB, Flamethrower for nice coverage and balance. For the 4th move, U-turn would be ideal – nice momentum, but you need 18 BP in the Battle Subway or ( move relearner ), so Dig works as an easier alternative for coverage.
Volcarana @Metronome

Fire Blast ( TM 38 cash 70 000)
Giga Drein (Move Tutor 10 green)
Bug Buzz (Lv 70)
Psychic (TM 29)
Volcarona – This Pokémon probably doesn’t need an introduction. Cool, interesting, versatile, legendary Pokémon. You can build it in a million ways, although leveling it to around 60–65 can be a bit tough. Fire Blast – great special STAB, strong, usually one-shots. Giga Drain – excellent Grass-type coverage plus survivability and healing. Bug Buzz – STAB, and Psychic as special coverage against Fighting-types. At level 100, something amazing happens: with a setup of Hurricane, Fiery Dance, Bug Buzz, and Giga Drain, it becomes insane. If you’re considering it, it’s definitely worth using. Interesting, strong, and will definitely not disappoint.
6 slot ----- empty or HM slave
/
/
/
/
Rufflet -> Fly + Cut + Strenght
6th Slot... Hm... – The 6th slot is for you, the player! You can leave it empty, since my 5 Pokémon can easily handle the whole game on their own. That way, they’ll get more experience and it will be easier to level them up. If you feel like you need a 6th Pokémon, you can add an Electric-type like Galvantula or Eelektross, or a Fighting-type such as Lucario. Another very interesting option is Crobat as a special support in battles. If you decide to play with only 5 Pokémon, a perfect HM slave would be Rufflet with Fly, Cut, and Strength. You can catch it on Route 23 so late in game, until then, Volcarona can carry Fly.
Q&A
Here I’m describing an interesting, somewhat unconventional team that is mainly designed to make going through all the post-game content fast and enjoyable. That’s why in some cases a Pokémon has two STAB moves – I don’t like the situation where a Pokémon has only one STAB, and it’s a move with just 5/5 PP. That might be fine for PvP tournaments, but in the main campaign it’s much better to have two STABs available.
Why so many Fire-type moves: Volcarona, Zoroark, Darmanitan?
Why not? In this game Fire moves are plentiful, flexible, and powerful – you should take advantage of that. Volcarona and Darmanitan complement each other perfectly as a special sweeper and a physical sweeper. They definitely won’t let you down in your teams.
About Zen Headbutt and Giga Drain:
Both require Move Tutor shards (8 Yellow and 10 Blue). That’s not really a problem in the game – I had enough shards around the same time I could also pick up TM29 Psychic.
With this team I had no problems beating the entire game: Team Plasma, the Elite Four, the dragons, and in the post-game the Treehollow with all 10 areas! One-shotting every trainer’s Pokémon and absolutely destroying all the content. All of my main Pokémon reached level 100, and I had an amazing time playing through the game.
